Trooper Report

The Alaska State Troopers reported the following incidents. Any charges reported are merely accusations and the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

Criminal Trespass

GIRDWOOD—Aug. 22 troopers responded to the Alyeska Resort to investigate a report of a criminal trespass that occurred on the evening of Aug. 21. An investigation revealed that Mckenzie O’Bryon of Girdwood, age 21, had trespassed on Alyeska Resort property despite being previously advised by resort security personnel that she was not allowed to return to the resort. O’Bryon was contacted by troopers at an area residence and issued a misdemeanor citation for criminal trespass 2nd.

Search and Rescue

HOPE—Aug. 23 around 2:12 p.m., trooper’s Soldotna dispatch received a call from an individual in Hope, reporting someone paragliding out of control before disappearing below the tree line just west of Hope. The caller expressed concern because the area is heavily wooded, and there is seemingly no safe place to land where the individual was descending.

Troopers responded to the area of Hope, and checked a trail in the area but were unable to locate the paraglider. AST Helo 3 responded to the area from Anchorage and checked the area, but no sign of a paraglider was found and the search was suspended. At about 7:03 p.m., Allen Hansen of Anchorage, age 42, called Girdwood troopers and stated that he had been paragliding near Hope earlier in the day and that he had heard troopers were looking for a paraglider. Based on a description of his chute, troopers were able to confirm that Hansen was the paraglider in question. Hansen stated that he had landed on the beach in the area and that he was uninjured.

Driving While License Suspended

MILE 98 SEWARD HWY—Aug. 26 at approximately 12:20 p.m., troopers stopped a 2000 Jeep Cherokee for an equipment violation near mile 98 Seward Highway. The driver, Jesse J. Schleyer of Anchorage, age 20, was found driving while his license was suspended (DWLS). Schleyer was issued a misdemeanor Alaska Uniform Citation to later appear in court for DWLS and was released on the scene.

Warrant Arrest

GIRDWOOD—Aug. 27 at about 5 p.m., troopers contacted Bayne K. Salmon of Girdwood, age 22, at his residence off of Alyeska View in Girdwood. An investigation revealed Salmon had three outstanding warrants for his arrest. The first was for Failure to Appear (FTA) on the original charge of Misconduct Involving Controlled Substances 5th Degree, the second was for FTA on the original charge of DUI and the third was for FTA on the original charge of Violation of Conditions of Release. Salmon was arrested at the scene without incident, transported, and remanded to the Anchorage Jail where he was held without bail.
