The Alaska State Troopers reported the following incidents. Any charges reported are merely accusations and the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
GIRDWOOD: On Aug. 16 at 8:36 p.m., a Girdwood Trooper initiated a traffic stop on a motorcycle near mile 74 Seward Highway for speeding 98 mph in a 65 mph zone. The operator of the motorcycle eluded and drove recklessly until another Trooper at mile 87 Seward Highway intercepted him. The driver, Richard Ray Pacheco, age 34 of Anchorage, was arrested for Eluding 1st Degree and Reckless Driving. The motorcycle was impounded and Pacheco was remanded to the Anchorage Jail held on $500 bail.
GIRDWOOD: On Aug. 18 at approximately 2:18 p.m. a Trooper stopped a 2002 Pontiac sedan near milepost 64 Seward Highway operated by Dustin O. Mathews age 27 of Anchorage for a speeding violation. Mathews was driving with a revoked driver’s license and was ordered to appear for a mandatory court appearance at a future date. The vehicle was released to a licensed driver.
COOPER LANDING: On Aug. 20 at around 1 p.m., Troopers from Cooper Landing and Seward stopped a vehicle near mile 43 of the Sterling Highway for multiple traffic violations. The driver was contacted and identified as Jim Schreiner, 24 of Homer. A check of driving records showed that Schreiner’s license was revoked and he was required to have an ignition interlock device installed in any vehicle he drove. Further investigation showed that Schreiner did not have insurance on the vehicle and he did not have an ignition interlock device installed on the vehicle. Schreiner was arrested and booked into the Seward Jail where bail was set at $1,250.
GIRDWOOD: on Aug. 21, the Alaska Wildlife Troopers cited Alfred Hammons, 36 of Palmer,, Girdwood Post for failing to write down his sport caught fish on his proxy form before leaving the fishing area. Bail is set at $110 at Anchorage District Court.
GIRDWOOD: On Aug. 21 at approximately 7 p.m., Troopers stopped a green 1995 Ford Explorer for a moving violation near mile 99 of the Seward Highway. The driver, Kenneth Carpenter, age 25 of Anchorage, was contacted and identified by his AKOL. A records check revealed Carpenter had an outstanding warrant for his arrest for Failure to Appear for Arraignment on the original charge of False Information. Carpenter was placed under arrest, transported to the Anchorage Jail, and remanded. Bail was set at $200.
GIRDWOOD: On Aug. 24 at approximately 12:45 p.m., Skyler Lee, age 23 of Anchorage, was arrested on the charge of Reckless Driving following a traffic stop for speeding 91 MPH in a 65 MPH zone and passing several vehicles in no passing zone and on a corner near mile 99 of the Seward Highway. Lee was remanded to the Anchorage Jail with a bail of $250 and cited for both traffic offenses.
GIRDWOOD: On Aug. 29 at approximately 5:30 p.m., Girdwood Troopers responded to a motor vehicle collision near mile 110 of the Seward Highway. An investigation determined that Daniel G. Collie, age 57 of Anchorage, was riding his 2003 Harley Davidson motorcycle southbound when he laid his motorcycle on the ground to avoid rear ending a vehicle in front of him that had stopped. Both Collie and his passenger were wearing helmets. Paramedics to an Anchorage area hospital for a broken ankle transported Collie. The passenger reported no injuries. The investigation is continuing.
COOPER LANDING: On Aug. 30 at about 1:00 p.m., Troopers from Cooper Landing responded to a two vehicle collision near mile 47.5 of the Sterling Highway. An investigation showed that a vehicle being driven by Troy Zimmerman, 41 of Nikiski, was traveling north bound on the Sterling Highway following a vehicle being driven by Kathleen Sander, 60 of Sterling. Sander had to quickly slow down for a vehicle in front of her that suddenly slowed and turned off the road. Zimmerman was not able to stop in time and struck Sander’s vehicle. All occupants of both vehicles were wearing seat belts and there were no injuries. Alcohol was not a factor and Zimmerman was cited for following too close.
COOPER LANDING: On Sept. 1 at approximately 3:15 pm, Troopers contacted Stephan Kvasnikoff at mile 55 of the Sterling Highway where he was stopped for a traffic violation. Kvasnikoff was operating a black 1996 Hyundai car when he was stopped. Kvasnikoff was found to be operating a motor vehicle with No Valid Operating License. Kvasnikoff was issued a summons for the misdemeanor offence. A valid driver took possession of the vehicle.
