The following incidents were reported to Detachment E of the Alaska State Troopers.
DUI: On Sept. 4 at 4:44 p.m. a Trooper conducted a traffic stop on a 1989 Chevy pickup for speeding at mile 98 Seward Highway near Girdwood. An investigation revealed Michael Ray King, age 50 of Cooper Landing, was driving while under the influence of alcohol and subsequently was arrested for DUI. King was also issued a Speeding citation (Double Fine in a Safety Zone). King was transported to Anchorage Jail where he was remanded into custody and held on $250 bail.
Criminal Trespass Second Degree: On Sept. 6 at approximately 4:40 p.m. a Trooper responded to the Alyeska Hotel and Resort for a report of Criminal Trespass. An investigation was conducted in which it was determined that two juvenile males had ridden their mountain bikes onto Alyeska property where “No Trespassing” signs were clearly visible. The area is currently under construction which includes blasting with explosives. A report will be submitted to juvenile intake for review. The juveniles were released at the scene.
Driving with a Revoked License: On Sept. 8 at approximately 11:05 pm, Alaska State Troopers in Girdwood conducted a traffic stop on a 1986 Volkswagen Golf for an equipment violation near Mile 1 of Alyeska Highway in Girdwood. An Investigation revealed Christopher Shawn McCain, age 33 of Portage, was driving with a revoked driver’s license (original charge DUI). McCain was issued a summons for Driving with a Revoked Driver’s License to appear in court and a citation for No Proof of Insurance and was released on scene. The vehicle was released to a licensed driver.
Driving with a Suspended License: At Mile 95 Seward Highway on Sept. 9 at 1:30 p.m. a Trooper initiated traffic stop on a vehicle for speeding near mile 95 of the Seward Highway, which is in the Safety Corridor. Investigation revealed the driver of the vehicle, Rickert D. Janssen, 32, of Anchorage, has a suspended driver’s license. Janssen was issued a summons and was assigned a date to appear in court. Janssen was also issued a traffic citation for speeding
Disorderly Conduct, Resisting Arrest: On Sept. 9 at approximately 12:01 am, Alaska State Troopers in Girdwood were conducting a bar check at Chair Five Bar in Girdwood when they encountered a drunk and disorderly male subject in the parking lot, exiting the driver’s seat of a parked vehicle. After an investigation, Tobin Eric Horne, age 23 of Anchorage, was arrested for Disorderly Conduct while disturbing the peace and recklessly causing a hazardous condition to others by his actions. Horne was also charged with Resisting Arrest when he tried to resist the Troopers and prevent them from hand cuffing him. Horne was transported to Anchorage jail where he was remanded into custody and held on $500 bail and released when sober.
Vehicle Theft: On Sept. 9 at around 12:30 p.m., John H. Christopherson, age 60 of Hope, reported to Alaska State Troopers that his car was stolen from his residence. An investigation revealed that sometime between Sept. 9 at noon and Sept. 10 at 12:30 p.m., an unknown individuals) stole a 1987 red Plymouth van from Christopherson’s residence in Hope. The vehicle is valued at approximately $2,000. The vehicle was recovered at approximately 3:30 p.m. in a gravel pit in Hope the same day. Fatal Crash: On Sept. 11 around 8:30 a.m., Troopers responded to a report of a vehicle in the woods near mile 108.5 of the Seward Highway at a pull out in the Rainbow area. An investigation revealed that the driver, Richard White, 44, of Anchorage died after driving off the road into the trees. The State Medical Examiner office responded to the scene and took possession of the body for an autopsy. A toxicology is continuing and investigators are awaiting the results.
Operating with a Suspended License: At Mile 95 Seward Highway. On Sept. 14 at approximately 1:20 p.m. a Trooper initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle for speeding which is in the Safety Corridor. An investigation revealed the driver of the vehicle, Jason S. Sharpe, 28 years of age of Indianapolis Indiana, was operating with a suspended driver’s license. Sharpe was issued a summons and was assigned a date to appear in court. Sharpe was also issued a traffic citation for speeding.
DUI, Resisting Arrest, Refusal to submit to a Chemical Test: On Sept. 15 at around 10:00 p.m., Troopers arrested Richard D. Desautel, 55, of Girdwood for DUI, Resisting Arrest, and Refusal to submit to a chemical test. Desautel was operating a 2001 four door passenger car which was also reported to troopers as a REDDI (Report Every Drunk Driver Immediatley). He was contacted on a traffic stop for a moving violation near Mile 101 of the Seward Highway within the Seward Highway Traffic Safety Corridor. Desautel’s vehicle was impounded and he was remanded to the Anchorage Jail. Bail was set at $1,500 cash only.
