The Sexy Senior Dumpster Cleaners and friends took to the Kenai River Sept. 11 for a drift boat adventure through the canyon and onto Skilak Lake. Jim and Pinkie Richardson, John Corbey, Joe Knox, Anne Engbers, Janice Coburn, Gary and Jan Mitchell, Jacque Greenman, Anna Wheeler, Jean Nierenberg, Wendy Hope, Mayme Ohnemus, Steve and Neva Black, Theresa Norris, and Lila May Schroeder climbed into three of Alaska Rivers rafts with guides Gary Galbraith, Erik Route, and Anthony Murray after suiting up and receiving their safety orientation. Jeannie “Nana” Sether sent muffins for the group as a pre-boarding snack but the Galbraith dog Star was faster than the humans at snagging the treats.
Anna Wheeler described the sights along the river way: many fishermen catching trout and Dolly Varden, eagles and their nests, and on the mountains they counted several Dall Sheep. Lunch of ham and turkey sandwiches, cheeses, sausage, crackers, and hot and cold drinks was served on a Skilak Lake beach. Mary Louise Molenda donated a case of champagne from Sunrise Inn, which added to the festivities. After refreshments some rafted across the lake to be picked up at the campground while the rest of the group hiked the mile and a half long Hidden Creek Trail to meet the shuttle on the Skilak Lake Road.
