Trooper Report

The following incidents were reported to Detachment E of the Alaska State Troopers.

Gillnet Fishing in Closed Waters: On July 12, Tyee Lohse, 20, of Cordova, was cited by the Alaska Wildlife Troopers for commercial drift gillnet fishing in closed waters. Arraignment is on July 25 in Cordova District Court.

Motor Vehicle Collision/ Fatality: On July 14, at 5:18 p.m. Troopers received a report of a motor vehicle collision located near mile 61 of the Seward Highway, approximately five miles North of the Hope Highway. Troopers responded and arrived on scene at approximately 5:40 p.m. Medical personnel from Moose Pass and Cooper Landing, along with Providence Life Guard also responded to the scene to assist. Troopers found a 74 year old male, entrapped in a 1998 Plymouth Neon. Investigation revealed the Neon was driving Northbound on the Seward Highway when the vehicle crossed the double yellow line and struck a Southbound 2006 Chevrolet pickup head-on. The southbound pickup was driven by Lyle Gill, age 35 of Anchorage. Gill sustained minor injuries and was treated and released on scene. The 74 year old male was pronounced deceased at the scene. Both vehicles were a total loss. All occupants of the Chevrolet pickup reported wearing their seat belts. The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending Next of Kin notification. Investigation is on going.

Warrant Arrest: On Friday, July 20 at around 7:00 p.m. Troopers arrested Harvey W. Mills, 54, of Girdwood on an AST $3,500 warrant for failure to appear for a hearing. Mills was contacted on a traffic stop for an equipment violation in the Girdwood area. Mills was transported and remanded to the Anchorage Jail.

License plate Theft: On July 20 at approximately 4 pm., Brian Ashley Chafee, age 36 of Girdwood reported someone stole his rear license plate from his 1990 Toyota pickup. Investigation revealed Chafee did not know when the plate was last seen on his pickup or when it was stolen. Chafee discovered it missing minutes before contacting Girdwood Post. Value of the stolen plate is estimated at $15.00 No leads or suspects were identified.

Driving With A Suspended License: On July 21 at approximately 3:25 p.m., Troopers initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle for speeding at mile 94 of the Seward Highway. Investigation revealed the driver of the vehicle, Donald L. Drake, age 51, of Anchorage, and was driving with a suspended driver’s license. McCabe was issued a summons to appear in court on the charge of Driving with a Suspended Drivers License. McCabe was also issued a traffic citation for speeding.

DUI: On July 22, at approximately 7:33 p.m. Troopers stopped a 1997 Chevy Blazer near mile 92 of the Seward Highway. The vehicle had been called in as the subject of a REDDI report. Investigation revealed Kevin Dean Cunningham, age 43 of Anchorage, was driving under the influence of alcohol. Cunningham was arrested for DUI and transported to Anchorage Jail where he was held until sober.

Warrant Arrest: On July 23, around 9:00 p.m. Troopers contacted David Keith Swendiman at the Girdwood Post. Investigation revealed Swendiman had an outstanding $500.00 warrant for shoplifting. Swendiman was arrested and transported to Anchorage Jail where he was remanded into custody.

Warrant Arrest: On July 23, at approximately 9:00 p.m. Troopers contacted Richard Scott Demello, age 32 of Girdwood, at the Girdwood Post. Investigation revealed Demello had an outstanding $250.00 warrant for FTA for No Insurance by the Anchorage Police Department. Demello was arrested and transported to Anchorage Jail where he was remanded into custody.

Warrant Arrest: On July 28 at approximately 1:40 p.m. Troopers stopped a 2002 GMC pickup for speeding near mile 98 Seward Hwy. Investigation revealed the driver Nicole Kimberly Aikens, age 18 of Anchorage, had an outstanding warrant for Failure to Appear (O.C. MCA. Aikens was arrested and transported to Anchorage Jail where she was remanded into custody.

Assault: On July 27, at around 6:00 p.m. Troopers responded to a residence located on Beirne St in Girdwood for a report of a disturbance. Investigation revealed Carolyn Louise Anderson, age 22 of Girdwood, assaulted two male individuals and broke a window and damaged a wall while she was at the residence. Further investigation revealed Anderson ripped a phone out of a wall while another person was attempting to call the Troopers. Total damages were estimated at approximately $450.00. Both victims had minor injuries and declined medical treatment. Anderson was arrested for Assault IV (DV), Assault IV, Interfering w/report of Domestic Violence, and Criminal Mischief IV. She was transported to Anchorage Jail and held on $4,000 bail.

Criminal Mischief: On July 29 at approximately 4:00 p.m., Al Johnson, 62, of Anchorage, reported damage to a Forest Service access gate near the Resurrection Trailhead in Hope. Damage is estimated at approximately $3000. Suspect information has been developed and an AST investigation is ongoing.

DUI: On July 29 at approximately 12:25 a.m. Troopers responded to a report of a vehicle in the ditch at the Essential 1 Gas Station near mile 101 of the Seward Highway. Investigation revealed that Tina Oman-Green, age 41 of Anchorage, had been driving under the influence when she drove her vehicle into the ditch. The vehicle was not damaged. Oman-Green was arrested for DUI and eventually transported to, and lodged at the Anchorage Jail with a $ 500 bail.
