The Girdwood Center for Visual Arts deeply thanks Holland America / Princess Tours for making our “Art on the Lake “ fundraiser (Wednesday, June 24th ) an incredible success. Their generous donation of our Portage Lake cruise made our event quite memorable,
The professionalism, friendliness and availability of the Ptarmigan’s captain and crew allowed our event to go off without a hitch. The glacier was magnificent, the 3,000 ft. waterfalls spectacular and the icebergs were awesome.
GCVA would also like to thank our wonderful supporters for coming out and making this event such fun and playful evening. Art appreciation brings people together in such a wonderful way.
Having the Portage Lake Cruise so easily accessible to those of us from Girdwood and Anchorage truly makes us the fortunate ones.
Thank you again Holland America / Princess Tours for a terrific experience and a successful fundraiser.

Non-profit group helps to clean up local trails
To the Editor:
Every summer, the Girdwood Trails Association brings crews from SAGA—a a nonprofit service learning organization for young people to Girdwood to help maintain and improve the many gorgeous trails around town.
This year our crew spent three weeks here, camping up at Crow Creek Mine. Our main project was the severely swampy and overgrown Beaver Pond Trail.
Thanks to many, many hours of brushing and planking, it is now in great condition and easily accessible for hikers. We also worked on the Iditarod Trail, Abe’s Trail, Deb’s Way, and several small projects around town. We found Girdwood to be a beautiful, friendly, and relaxing community, and we really enjoyed our time here.
We hope that Girdwood residents will enjoy the fruit of our labors and that SAGA crews will continue to be invited to your community.
