TROOPER REPORT

The Alaska State Troopers reported the following incidents. Any charges reported are merely accusations and the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

False Statement
COOPER LANDING—On April 18, Dragan Zecevic, 53, was cited by the Alaska Wildlife Troopers Cooper Landing post. Zecevic was cited for making a false statement on his 2008 Sport Fishing License. Bail was set at $310.

The Seward Highway was closed at Mile 96 for over an hour after a motor vehicle collision on April 24 about 7:30 a.m. One driver suffered severe injuries.

Motor Vehicle Collision
GIRDWOOD—On April 24 at 7:30 a.m., a Trooper from Girdwood, along with Girdwood Fire / EMS, responded to mile 96 of the Seward Highway for the report of a motor vehicle collision involving injuries. An on scene investigation revealed that Thomas Nash, age 33 of Anchorage, was driving south on the Seward Highway near mile 96 when he lost control of his 1999 Mazda pickup on an isolated area of ice. His vehicle entered the northbound lane and collided nearly head on with a 1988 Nissan pickup being driven by Benjamin Travis, age 35, of Seward. Both vehicles suffered irreparable damage. Travis was transported to Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage for treatment of substantial but non-life threatening injuries. Nash was not injured.

Probation Violation, Possession of Marijuana
GIRDWOOD—On April 25 at 10:39 p.m.. Troopers responded to mile 4 of Crow Creek Road in Girdwood for the reports of drunken people with guns and shooting from a large party that had the road blocked off with a fire. An investigation revealed Kurtis W. Kramer, age 33 of Girdwood, was in possession of marijuana, which was in violation of his probation. Kramer was arrested for the probation violation and also charged for MICS VI. He was transported to the Anchorage Jail and held without bail.

Motor Vehicle Crash
COOPER LANDING—On April 25 at 3:15 p.m., Troopers responded to a report of a single vehicle crash near mile 49.5 of the Sterling Highway. An investigation showed that Steve Stanton, 55 of Kenai, had been riding a motorcycle north bound on the Sterling Highway when he lost control on loose gravel on the road. The motorcycle went into the ditch where Stanton was ejected from the motorcycle. Stanton received non-life threatening injuries during the crash and was transported to the Soldotna Hospital for treatment.

Commercial Motor Vehicle Crash
COOPER LANDING—On April 25 at 5:10 a.m., Troopers responded to a report of a semi-truck and trailers that had overturned near mile 42 of the Sterling Highway. An investigation showed that Micheal Steger, 27 of Kenai, had been driving south bound on the Sterling Highway when he fell asleep and went into the ditch. Steger was able to keep the truck and first trailer upright but the second trailer rolled onto its side. Steger was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash and was not injured. Steger was cited for driving while fatigued and released at the scene. The trailer was a total loss.

Driving on a Revoked Driver’s License
GIRDWOOD—On April 26 at 4 p.m., a Girdwood Trooper stopped a 1986 Ford Bronco near mile 115 of the Seward Highway for an equipment violation. An investigation revealed the driver, Jesse E. Sharp age 40 of Anchorage, was driving on a revoked driver’s license. Sharp was issued a citation for the equipment violation and a summons to appear in court for DWLR and was released on scene.

Marijuana Possession
GIRDWOOD—On April 27 at 3:30 p.m., Alaska State Troopers contacted Mark A. Wells, age 25 of Girdwood, for Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance in the sixth degree (MICS 6). Wells was in possession of less than one ounce of marijuana. Wells was contacted as the driver on a traffic stop for an equipment violation in the Girdwood area. Wells was issued traffic citations and released on his own recognizance with a summons to appear in court for the MICS 6.

Arrest Warrant
COOPER LANDING—On May 2 at approximately 12:09 a.m., Alaska Wildlife Troopers contacted a group of fishermen at Jim’s Landing near Cooper Landing on Chugiak had an arrest warrant. Izatt was arrested and remanded to Wildwood Pretrial.

Motorcycle Crash
SEWARD HIGHWAY MILE 111—On May 3 at approximately 6 p.m., Troopers received a report of a motor vehicle crash involving a semi-tractor pulling double trailers and a motorcycle near mile 111 of the Seward Highway. Troopers from Girdwood, Anchorage Police Dept., US Parks Service, and members of the Troopers Bureau of Highway Patrol responded to the scene. An investigation revealed, David McDonald, age 38 of Anchorage, traveled south bound on the Seward Highway in a 2002 Kenworth semi-tractor pulling double trailers near mile 111. Chad Griffin, age 38 of Anchorage, traveled north bound with his wife, Danielle Griffin, age 33 of Anchorage, as a passenger on his 2007 Harley Davidson motorcycle. Griffin attempted to pass vehicles north bound and lost control, resulting in his wife being ejected from the motorcycle. Danielle Griffin collided with the rear trailer of the semi-tractor. Lifeguard responded to the scene and transported Danielle Griffin to Providence Medical Center in Anchorage where she remains in critical condition. An investigation is ongoing.
