The following incidents were reported to Detachment E of the Alaska State Troopers.
Motor vehicle collision: On April 15 at 8:31 a.m., troopers responded to a motor vehicle collision at Mile 68 of the Seward Highway. Investigation determined that a 2005 Dodge truck, driven by Corey G. Vanduren, age 32, of Anchorage, was traveling northbound when he lost control of the vehicle, sliding off the road and hitting a snowberm causing the vehicle to tip over on it’s side. The driver and passenger were transported by paramedics to a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries. The driver and passenger reported not wearing their seatbelts. The vehicle sustained approximately $8,000.00 in damages. Vanduren and his passenger were both issued a citation for Failure to Wear Seatbelt.
Eluding and reckless driving: On Friday, April 13, at 9:06 p.m. troopers arrested Paul A. Kilborn, 26, of Anchorage, for eluding in the first degree and reckless driving. The incident started near mile 60.5 of the Seward Hwy. Troopers attempted a traffic stop on a northbound vehicle for speeding. The vehicle was exceeding 100 MPH and was passing other vehicles unsafely. Anchorage police dispatch was advised of the vehicle failed to stop for the marked patrol unit when overhead lights and siren were activated. APD sent officers southbound to assist. Kilborn stopped his late 90’s model Ford Ranger pickup near mile 102 of the Seward Hwy. Kilborn was taken into custody with the assistance of Anchorage police officers and remanded to the Anchorage Jail. Kilborn’s vehicle was impounded and bail was set at $15,000 cash only plus a court approved third party custodian.
Recovery and stolen equipment: On April 17 at about 10:00 a.m., Investigators from the Alaska Bureau of Investigation, AST Major Offenders Unit, and Palmer Police Department served a search warrant at a privately owned campground business near Portage, for the purpose of locating heavy equipment and machinery allegedly stored there that had been reported as stolen during the previous two to three years from various locations in Anchorage and the Matanuska-Susitna Valley. During the investigation, several items were located on the property that were confirmed to have been stolen, including a Case bulldozer, Caterpillar excavator, Bobcat loader, two Trail King heavy equipment trailers, and a travel trailer. Conservative estimates place the accumulated value of the recovered items in excess of $100,000. Additional information obtained during the investigation led to the service of additional search warrants at the business location of Area Wide Towing, in Anchorage, as well as the Anchorage residence of the business owner. At the residence location, a JCB Backhoe was recovered. No arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing.
Warrant Arrest, Minor Consuming Alcohol: On April 20 at approximately 2:15 p.m. conducted a traffic stop on a 1994 Chevrolet truck at mile 87 of the Seward highway for a traffic related offense. The passenger in the vehicle, Michael Longiny, age 19 of Big Lake, was found to have two outstanding warrants for his arrest. Longiny was also found to be under the influence of alcohol. Longiny was arrested on the outstanding warrants and transported to the Anchorage jail pending arraignment on the warrants or bail of $1000 cash only. Longiny was also issued a summons for minor consuming alcohol.
