The following incidents were reported to Detachment E of the Alaska State Troopers. Any charges reported are merely accusations and the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
Warrant Arrest: On April 23 at 11:30 a.m. Troopers arrested Lisa A. Swanson age 39 of Whittier on a $250 warrant for Failure to Appear for arraignment on an original charge of driving without a valid operator license. Swanson was contacted as a passenger in a vehicle that was stopped for a traffic violation in the Girdwood area. Swanson was remanded to the Anchorage Correctional Complex.
Operating with a Suspended License: On April 24 at approximately 7:40 p.m. a Trooper from Girdwood initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle for speeding near mile 98 of the Seward Highway in the safety corridor. Investigation revealed the driver of the vehicle, Christopher L. Carpenter age 27 of Anchorage, was operating with a suspended driver’s license. Carpenter was issued a summons to appear in court. Carpenter was also issued a traffic citation for speeding. The vehicle was released to a licensed driver at the scene.
Motor Vehicle Collision: On April 25 at 7:13 p.m. a Trooper and Cooper Landing EMS responded to a single vehicle rollover near mile 57 Seward Highway, at the intersection with Hope Road. An investigation revealed Nyaluak G. Chan, age 26 of Anchorage was driving a 2004 Dodge Durango northbound on the Seward Highway near mile 57 when she lost control of the SUV. The car fishtailed off the roadway, then rolled several times in the ditch. All occupants were wearing their seat belts and reported minor injuries. They were treated on scene by Cooper Landing EMS and released. Damages to the Durango are estimated at $5,000.
Warrant Arrest: On April 26 at 3 p.m. a Trooper conducted a traffic stop on a 1998 Nissan Maxima for an equipment violation. An investigation revealed the passenger, Donald Morgan Thomas age 26 of Girdwood, had an outstanding $1000.00 arrest warrant for failure to appear (original charge driving while violating a limited license). Thomas was arrested and later remanded to the Anchorage Jail.
Theft in the Second Degree: On April 27 at 2:24 p.m., Sarah E. Faulkner-Mattingley age 38 of Girdwood reported a theft from her vehicle. On April 26 sometime between 2 p.m. and 10 p.m. midnight unknown person(s) stole a pink leather purse valued at $300 and a Cannon digital camera valued at $400. The items were stolen from her unsecured vehicle while it was parked in the Olympic Mountain Loop area in Girdwood.
Theft in the Second Degree: On April 27 at 1 p.m. Graham D. Ward age 26 of Fairbanks, reported a theft of a snowmachine. Sometime between April 26 at 2 p.m. and April 27 at 8 a.m. an unknown person(s) stole the snowmachine from the back of Ward’s pickup truck while it was parked overnight in the Alyeska Day Lodge parking area in Girdwood. The snowmachine was a black and orange 2003 Ski-Doo Summit valued at $4,000.
Failure to Return Hunting Report: On April 27 Romie Deschamps, 38 of Girdwood, was cited by the Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Girdwood Post for failing to return his 2006 tier II Caribou hunt report to ADF&G. Bail is set at $110.00 at Anchorage District Court.
