Greetings Turnagain Times readers! Mt. Redoubt has blown sky high and spring is here.
A super show being brought to Anchorage by Whistling Swan Productions is Ed Hamell and Anais Mitchell. A fantastic double bill, they both record for Ani DiFranco’s Righteous Babe label. Ed Hamell is a one - man band who sports a history that’s a tribute to rock stars making their way from the bottom to the top. Anais Mitchell is from a sheep farming family in Vermont. She combines the personal with the political in finger-picked acoustic songs. Check them out!
• April 3 Vagabond Blues, 7:30 pm.
• April 4 Snow Goose Theatre, 7:30 pm.

Robin Rosemond/Turnagain Times Organic Oasis Restaurant & Juice Bar serves up homemade soups from scratch, fresh breads baked in house and a variety of juices and tonics, a perfect choice for those who want a healthy alternative when with dining out. |
For those of you who are looking for a healthy restaurant, Organic Oasis Restaurant & Juice Bar is the spot for you. Steve Planté, owner and operator of Organic Oasis Restaurant & Juice Bar describes the life lesson that he’s learned during his time at Organic Oasis. He says, “The true focus of our time has come down to this; Let Go of Issues, Clean Your Body & Empower Thyself. Good health is not so complicated but it does demand consistency and discipline”.
I had lunch there recently and I chose the Vegetarian Hula Burger with Mango Salsa. The Tempeh burger was flavorful, but difficult to eat with my hands because it was wet and fell apart. I enjoyed their salad that had a colorful variety of vegetables that were crisp and fresh. The Caesar dressing was yummy.
The Hummus Platter was delightful. It was served with pita toasts, sprouts, and garlic oil that was strong and delicious. I suggest you share this platter so whomever you’re dining with will also have the “garlic” experience.
The soups are made from scratch as well as their breads and I think they do a fine job. I tried the split pea soup and my guest had chicken soup. They were both very good, but the black pepper was a little overwhelming.
The staff and servers were knowledgeable and I felt they did a good job of attending the rather brisk lunch crowd. Organic Oasis Restaurant & Juice Bar, 2610 Spenard Rd.
