Challenge Alaska celebrates a successful season

One of the most rewarding volunteer jobs in Girdwood is teaching skiing and snowboarding to developmentally disabled students of all ages for Challenge Alaska. This year’s volunteers celebrated a successful season Saturday, April 12, at the Challenge Alaska lodge at the base of Chair 3. Challenge volunteers instructed over 1,100 lessons this season and logged 8,000 volunteer hours. Instructors receive technical training and Alyeska resort lift vouchers for their efforts. Challenge Alaska improves the quality of life for people with disabilities and the whole community through adaptive sports, therapeutic recreation, and education. There will be more volunteer opportunities next season.
