The Anchorage Bowl is filled with happenings in April! We have one of Broadway’s funniest musicals at the PAC for 13 performances.
Go see Spamalot. Yes, it’s Monty Python humor, but if you listen carefully between the endless laughs, you can hear the stream of hysterical jokes that will guarantee to bring audiences closer to the Holy Grail. It runs through April 24 at the Atwood Concert Hall. www.centertix.com.
The new and fabulous MelisSaws are performing at the Sitzmark Bar in Girdwood April 17 and 18. This fresh, hot band is comprised of Melissa Mitchell and some of the Whipsaw’s. It’s a great night of country/rock music and I highly suggest you wear your dancing shoes.
The 11:20’s CD Release Party is being held at McGinley’s Irish Pub April 17, at 8:30 p.m. This is an exciting time for the band, so come and support them and hear songs from the new CD live. The 11:20’s are playing for the first time at the pub! 645 G Street, (907) 279-1782. www.mcginleyspub.com
My favorite public radio station KNBA 90.7 is hosting the Annual Alaska Native Art Auction at the Dena’ina Civic and Convention Center April 30. Since the auctions humble beginnings in 1995, the Art Auction has become the largest fundraiser for Koahnic Broadcast Corporation. Held every spring with the help of local artists, businesses, and volunteers, the auction should be on your ‘to do’ list.

Robin Rosemond/Turnagain Times La Mex serves up Mini Beef Tacos, Chicken Margarita Tacos, and perfect Margaritas. |
An excellent choice for Mexican food is La Mex. This Anchorage main stay is family owned and operated since1969. It’s the home of the ‘Grande Margarita.’
It has two locations. One on 2550 Spenard Road (907 274-7511), and one near Dimond Center, 8330 King Street (907 344-6399). Both offer a completely different setting, and I like the salsa, I like the chips, and I adore the drinks.
La Mex is celebrating its fortieth anniversary and will be having live music this summer at the Dimond Mall location, which has a lovely patio. Try the Chicken Margarita Tacos, they have delicious flavor.
The Anchorage Community Theatre has Dial “M” for Murder on the Main Stage. It will run through May 10. This Alfred Hitchcock classic, if done well, is a great night of theater. The tightly written script, written by Frederick Knott, who also wrote the screenplay for the film classic, is filled with great dialogue, and surprises. Anchorage Community Theatre 1133 E. 70th Ave., (907) 344-4713. Ticket reservations: 868-4913.
The World Premiere of
