Heritage Land Bank provides a glimpse of various projects happening in Glacier Valley

The municipality of Anchorage is the largest landowner in the Girdwood Valley, and basically owns most of the non-private lands not held either by the state or federal government. Heritage Land Bank is the City’s land manager. HLB provided a list of projects they are involved in for the near and long-term in the valley. Below is a list of the projects and contact persons.

Girdwood Industrial Site
Previous subdivision plat expired, HLB requested monies from Alaska State Legislature for new platting action, construction of all improvements. HLB Contact: Susie Paine.

Holtan Hills Subdivision
AWWU board approved construction of Phase IIB water line from Girdwood School to well house through HLB lands; HLB hired R&M Consultants, Inc. to complete plat for subdivision, expect preliminary plat to be complete by end of 2009. HLB Contact: Alison L. Smith.

Girdwood South Townsite
Planning Commission approved and adopted South Townsite Master Plan; HLB proceeding with platting Phase I to provide lease lots; expect preliminary plat to be complete by end of 2009. HLB Contact: Susie Paine.

Multi-use Trails
Coordinating with Girdwood Nordic Ski Club as a new non-profit; HLB making contribution to construction of trails; HLB currently working with Alyeska and US Forest Service to locate a trailhead/parking area somewhere near the end of Arlberg Road; easement document to allow construction going before Assembly for approval in early May. Chugach Electric Association substation relocation
Tracking the DOWL site assessment project with the potential of locating a new facility in the industrial area (can only happen once platting and development occurs). HLB Contact: Alison L. Smith.

Girdwood Cemetery
Waiting for outcome of request to Legislature for site assessment and preparation monies. HLB Contact: Susie Paine.
