The Alaska State Troopers reported the following incidents. Any charges reported are merely accusations and the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
Warrant Arrest
GIRDWOOD—On Feb. 20 at approximately 7:30 p.m., a Trooper stopped a vehicle near mile 3 of the Alyeska Highway for an equipment violation. The driver was identified as Andre T. Registe, age 19, of Anchorage. Registe was found to have an outstanding warrant for his arrest for fail to appear for an arraignment with an original charge of MICS 6th Degree. Registe was arrested and remanded to the Anchorage Jail. Bail was set at $250 cash.
Moving/Equipment Violation/Possession of Marijuana
GIRDWOOD—On Feb. 20 at 9:05 p.m., A Trooper stopped a 2002 Subaru Impreza near mile 2 Alyeska Highway for a moving violation and equipment violation. An investigation revealed the driver, Gregory David Hugunin, age 24 of Girdwood was in possession of marijuana. Hugunin was issued a summons for MICS VI, to later appear in court on those charges and released on scene.
Domestic Assault
GIRDWOOD—On Feb. 21 at 2:45 a.m., a Trooper responded to the Alyeska Resort Hotel for the report of a Domestic Assault. An investigation revealed that Joseph Martinez, age 23 of Anchorage, had assaulted his 19 year-old girlfriend and then left the area. Efforts to locate Martinez in both Girdwood and Anchorage have not been successful. The investigation is continuing.
DUI
GIRDWOOD—On Feb. 21, at 6:52 p.m., a Trooper stopped a 1997 Jeep Cherokee near mile 94 Seward Highway after it was called in as a REDDI vehicle. The driver was identified as Shanna Crozier, age 23 of Girdwood. Crozier was found to be driving under the influence of alcohol and was arrested for DUI. Crozier was transported to Girdwood Post and later released to a sober party.
Warrant Arrest
GIRDWOOD—On Feb. 22 at 9 p.m., a Trooper stopped a 1992 Plymouth Sundance near mile 99 Seward Highway for erratic driving. An investigation revealed a passenger in the vehicle, Michael Albert Robinson, age 23 of Anchorage, had an outstanding $500 APD warrant for failure to comply with community service. Robinson was arrested and remanded to the Anchorage Jail.
DUI
GIRDWOOD—On Feb. 25, at approximately 8:21 p.m., a Trooper responded to mile 79 of the Seward Highway for report of a vehicle stuck in the center median. The operator of the vehicle was identified as Jonathan C. Henkelman, age 34, of Nikiski. Henkelman was found to be operating the vehicle while intoxicated. Henkelman was arrested for DUI. Henkelman was transported and remanded into Anchorage Jail with bail set at $2,000 cash/corporate.
Search and Rescue
GIRDWOOD—On Feb. 25, at approximately 7:54 p.m., a Trooper and Girdwood EMS and the Alaska Railroad responded to mile 58 of the Alaska Railroad Which is between the Placer River and Spencer Glacier for an adult male on a mountain bike suffering from breathing problems. Deborah Johnson, age 34 of Anchorage, and Manuel Masony, age 33 of Anchorage, were transported back to the train depot near mile 79 of the Seward Highway where Masony was treated by paramedics. The Alaska State Troopers would like to thank Girdwood EMS and the Alaska Railroad for their quick response.
Assault
COOPER LANDING—On Feb. 26 at approximately 11:30 a.m., Troopers responded to 34763 Winds West Circle for the report of a disturbance. On scene contact was made with Frank Formica, age 48 of Soldotna, and David Quinn, age 59 of Cooper Landing. Formica and Quinn both reported a dispute over a contract for work. Formica and Quinn each reported the other party assaulted them. The parties were separated and charges for assault against Formica and Quinn will be forwarded to the District Attorney.
Operating with a Revoked License
GIRDWOOD—On Feb. 27, at approximately 9:30 p.m., a Trooper initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle for speeding 73 mph in a posted 55 mph zone near mile 106 of the Seward Highway in the safety corridor. An Investigation revealed the driver of the vehicle, Joshua L. Ellis, age 27 of Anchorage, was operating with a revoked driver’s license. Ellis was arrested for DWLR and remanded to the Anchorage Jail. Bail was set at $500 cash/ corporate. Ellis was also issued a traffic citation for speeding and no proof of Insurance. The vehicle was released to a licensed driver.
Possession of Marijuana
GIRDWOOD—On Feb. 27, at 10:15 p.m., a Trooper stopped a 2000 Chevy pickup at mi 99 Seward Highway after it was called in as a REDDI vehicle. An investigation revealed Bradley S. Cosgrove, age 31 of Indian, was in possession of marijuana. Cosgrove was issued a summons for MICS VI and released on scene.
Fugitive from Justice
GIRDWOOD—On Feb. 28, at 8:46 p.m., a Trooper stopped a 2002 Chevy pickup near mile 2 Alyeska Highway in Girdwood for an obscured license plate. An investigation revealed the passenger, Ryan Noel Baybayan, age 26 of Girdwood had an outstanding extraditable arrest warrant out of California for Felony Burglary. Baybayan was arrested on the warrant and transported to the Anchorage Jail and held pending extradition to California.
