Girdwood Transfer Station to increase fees April 1

The Girdwood Transfer Station will be increasing its fees starting April 1, 2008. The increase is part of a municipal-wide rate change to cover growing costs such as fuel labor, and equipment. The last rate change was in 1989.
The rate increase will apply to full pick-up truck loads, which will pay $5 more per load. Pick-ups with uncovered loads will be charged an additional $10—the city requires that all pick-up loads are covered. There is no rate change for any vehicle loads with six bags or less.
The new rates will be: $15 per secured or covered pick-ups, plus a $10 additional fee for uncovered loads. Cars with five to six 32 gallon bags or up to one cubic yard the rate is $5 per drop-off. Residential 32 gallon cans/bags up to four is $1 each.
