The following incidents were reported to Detachment E of the Alaska State Troopers.

Warrant Arrest: On Feb. 25 at 11 a.m., Troopers arrested Rodney L. Shupe, 39, on a $2,500 AST warrant for failure to appear for a pretrial conference. The original charge is driving while license suspended/revoked stemming from a DUI in Jan. 2004. Shupe was contacted at a business in Girdwood and remanded to the Anchorage Jail.

Warrant Arrest: On Feb. 22 at 4:08 p.m., Troopers arrested Shanna L. Stafford, age 25 of Anchorage, on a $500 AST warrant for failure to appear for a status hearing. The original charge was driving without a valid operator’s license occurring on July 7, 2004. Stafford was contacted as a passenger in a vehicle that was stopped for a moving violation near mile 97 of the Seward Hwy. Stafford was remanded to the Anchorage Jail.

Suspect Arrested Following Highway Pursuit: On Feb. 21 Troopers received a complaint of a reckless driver near Sterling Elementary.  Troopers from Cooper Landing responded and attempted to stop the suspect. The suspect refused to stop and caused the Trooper vehicle to go into the ditch to avoid a head-on collision. Troopers began a pursuit that lasted approximately 60 miles.  The vehicle was traveling15-35 mph over the posted limits, passed vehicles in no passing zones, and almost caused at least one head-on collision.  At one point the suspect went up an off ramp from the Seward Highway against opposing traffic and continued Northbound. The suspect was finally stopped after Girdwood Troopers used tire deflation near Portage. The devices were laid out in an isolated area to avoid any possible collisions. Tim Getty, 45, of Anchorage was arrested for Eluding, Assault 3rd, Misconduct Involving Wea-pons 4th, Assault 4th, DUI - drugs, Reckless Driving, and Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance 6th. During the arrest, Getty kicked a Trooper and later attempted to stab another Trooper with a pen.
Numerous items were found in the vehicle, which lead Troopers to believe other crimes are connected to Getty. An investigation is underway. Dispatch played a crucial role in assisting in the pursuit. Troopers from Seward, Cooper Landing and Girdwood participated in the incident. Getty was transported to the Seward Jail where he was remanded without bail.
