The Alaska State Troopers reported the following incidents. Any charges reported are merely accusations and the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
Arrest Warrant
MILE 108 SEWARD HWY—April 24 at around 6:45 p.m., Troopers stopped a 2008 Ford Fusion near mile 108 Seward Highway for an equipment violation. A passenger, Justin Hensler, was found to have two outstanding arrest warrants ($250 each, trial call and arraignment). Hensler was arrested and transported to the Anchorage Jail for remand.
DUI
GIRDWOOD—April 28 at approximately 11:14 p.m., Troopers stopped a 1989 Toyota Land Cruiser for an equipment violation near mile 111 Seward Highway. An investigation revealed the driver, Beth Alta Fletcher, age 30 of Girdwood, was driving under the influence of alcohol. Fletcher was arrested for DUI and later transported to the Anchorage Jail held on $5,000 cash or corporate plus court appointed third party.
Driving While License Suspended
GIRDWOOD—May 1 at around 5:47 p.m., Troopers stopped a 2006 Ford Explorer near mile 94 Seward Highway after it had been called in as a REDDI. An investigation revealed the driver, Phillip Thomas Petty, age 26 of Girdwood, had a suspended driver’s license. Petty was issued a Misdemeanor Citation to appear in court for the charge of Driving While License Suspended and released on scene.
Motor Vehicle Crash
MILE 79 SEWARD HWY—May 4 at 12:20 p.m., Troopers responded to a motor vehicle crash involving two vehicles. The crash investigation revealed Glen Michael McCollough, age 24 of Kasilof, was operating an early 90s passenger car traveling northbound near mile 79 of the Seward Highway. Merlin Dale Crumpacker, age 59 of Kenai, was operating a mid 2000’s pickup truck traveling northbound just in front of McCollough’s vehicle. Crumpacker slowed down for traffic in front of him. McCollough didn’t notice Crumpacker’s vehicle slowing down. McCollough’s vehicle skidded but McCollough was not able to stop or avoid crashing into the rear of Crumpacker’s vehicle. All occupants were using seat belts. There were no injuries. Both vehicles sustained more than $500 damage. McCollough’s vehicle had to be towed from the scene.
Arrest Warrant
MILE 108 SEWARD HWY—May 5 at about 1:37 p.m., Troopers conducted a traffic stop on a 2008 PT Cruiser near mile 108 Seward Highway for an equipment violation. A passenger in the vehicle was identified as Gregory Jackson Jr., age 23 of Anchorage, who had an outstanding $2,500 arrest warrant for failure to appear on an original charge of Theft II. Jackson was arrested on scene and transported to the Anchorage Jail where he was remanded into custody.
DUI, Driving While License Revoked, Probation Violation
MILE 100 SEWARD HWY—May 5 at 6 p.m., Troopers responded to the area of 100 mile Seward Highway for a report of an intoxicated male driver driving south on the Seward Highway. Troopers contacted Barry R. Rynone, age 48 of Anchorage, at El Rocko and the Seward Highway driving the suspect vehicle. Rynone was found to be impaired by alcohol. The investigation further revealed that Rynone was currently on felony probation for several previous DUI’s, and his Alaska Driver’s License had been previously revoked until the year 2063, for several DUI convictions. Rynone was arrested and transported to the Girdwood trooper post for felony DUI and Driving While License Revoked. Rynone was given a telephonic hearing and transported to the Anchorage Jail, where he was remanded without incident. Bail was set at $20,000.00.
Assault
GIRDWOOD—May 6 at 6 p.m., Troopers from the Girdwood post arrested Henry Ekada, Jr., age 48 of Girdwood, for Assault. It was reported the previous evening that Ekada, Jr. had assaulted another male at his shared residence in Girdwood. When troopers arrived the previous evening to investigate, Ekada, Jr. had already left the residence and was unable to be located. The victim had also left the residence to an undisclosed location. The following day the victim was contacted. The victim had minor injuries and did not need medical attention. Further investigation revealed that Ekada, Jr. and the victim had a domestic relationship. Ekada, Jr. was remanded without incident to the Anchorage Jail for one count of Assault III (Domestic Violence). Bail was set at $7,500.
Warrant Arrest
GIRDWOOD—May 12 at about 10 p.m., Zachariah J. Mommsen, age 21 of Anchorage, was contacted by troopers in Girdwood. Mommsen was arrested on an outstanding Palmer warrant. Mommsen was transported to the Anchorage Jail and held on $250 bail.
DUI
MILE 105 SEWARD HWY—May 6 at approximately 9:10 p.m., Troopers stopped a 1992 Subaru Loyale, near mile 105 Seward Highway for an equipment violation. The driver was identified as John Earl Simpson, age 61 of Anchorage. An investigation revealed Simpson consumed alcohol and was impaired. Simpson was arrested for DUI and was later remanded to the Anchorage Jail held on $250.00 bail.
