Four Valleys Community Schools received a grant from the Rasmuson Foundation last fall to help our organization with much needed computer upgrades. Because we now have modern computers we are able to offer on-line registration for our classes and events, redesign our logo, and upgrade our website www.fourvalleys.org. Next time you go to register for a class be sure to navigate around the site and learn more about FVCS.
We were very pleased to work with local professionals on this project, as utilizing and promoting local businesses is an important part of keeping our community vibrant. Girdwood talent Dawn Gerety of Art Seriously is the graphic designer who took our old logo and breathed new life and color into it. Scott Thomas of Thomas Internet Consulting walked us through the rebuilding process to create a great new website that allows staff to easily get through the “back door” and make real-time changes, add pictures, etc. Many thanks to these two Girdwood businesses.
Summer Program: Register NOW Classes Begin Early June!
Get on-line at www.fourvalleys.org and check out our Summer Program. This year’s program focuses on two areas that are in high demand: adult fitness and children’s soccer. For adults, we are offering Pilates classes three mornings a week. Sign up for a single class, or sign up for the entire series.
Four mornings a week you can workout doing Playful, Powerful Circuits, a fun fitness training session for all ability levels. For Yoga enthusiasts we are offering evening classes several nights a week for the session. As always, the Soccer Program is in full swing. Sign your child up by May 22, as we will be cutting off registration to place the t-shirt order. Also for younger children is our Summer Playground on Mondays and Wednesdays in the Girdwood Community Room.
Other classes include Women’s Self Defense, Introductory Mountain Biking, Music for Tots, and Glacier Valley Quilters. We will continue to add classes through the month of May, so keep checking back for additions. Register soon, as these classes will fill up and close.
6 Scholar Athlete Award Winners Ready to Hit the Slopes Next Season
Congratulations to the recipients of the Four Valleys Community School and Alyeska Resort Scholar Athlete Award. We had great applicants as usual, and our Scholar Award Committee had tough choices. Three individuals rose to the top and received full ski passes to Alyeska Resort for the next ski season. Preston Epley, Jean Larson-Rein, and Wade Quigley will be hitting the slopes next winter with ski passes they earned through academic excellence and an outstanding interview with our Scholar Award Committee.
FVCS additionally awarded three outstanding students with money towards alpine or Nordic gear purchases . Logan Sewall-Lau, Alyessa Connell, and Maddie Moser earned $100-$150 towards purchases they earned through academic merit and exceptional interview with the Committee. Thank you to Peter Zug, Rorie Hammel, and Kathy Feathergill for serving on the Committee, and especially to Alyeska Resort for co-sponsoring the ski passes!
