Daylight Savings begins Nov. 6 and then we’re officially in the dark season for the long haul. As we set our clocks and the year closes, take stock of the past and march in to the holiday season. Here are some offerings that will get you out and about supporting the local art scene and enjoying great deals at some of Anchorage’s best restaurants.

Mad Myrna’s presents Rocky Horror Show through Nov. 9. Anything could happen to sweethearts Brad and Janet when they set out for Dr. Scott’s remote home in a torrential downpour. Before the night is over, a sweet transvestite and his motley crew do the time warp and awaken a monster in this sing along rock ‘n’ roll sci-fi gothic. Mad Myrna’s 530 E. 5th Avenue. For more information call: 276-9762

Anchorage Community Theatre presents Fourplay: Four Short Plays by Alaskans through Nov. 13. Three Wise Moose, in partnership with Anchorage Community Theatre, return with a new edition of Fourplay: Four Short Plays by Alaskans. Producer Schatzie Schaefers is heading up the popular event, this time featuring plays. Details on the four plays will be posted as soon as the lineup is finalized. Anchorage Community Theatre, 1133 E. 70th Ave. For more information: 344-4713.

Carnival is playing at Cyrano’s Off-Center Playhouse through Nov. 13. Carnival is a 1961 musical with the book by Michael Stewart and music and lyrics by Bob Merrill. The musical is based on the 1953 film Lili. The Oscar winning film and Tony Award-winning musical “Carnival” is sentimental love story that the whole family can enjoy. The hit song, ‘Love Makes The World Go Round’, will bring a smile to your face and entertain you. For more information call: 274-2599. Cyrano’s Off Center Playhouse, 413 D Street.

Arctic Entries an event you are sure to enjoy. In the spirit of “This American Life” and other urban storytelling events, Arctic Entries brings Alaskans to the stage to share their personal stories, funny, sad, and sweet. At each performance, seven people each tell a 7-minute true story relating to this show’s theme, along with performances by local musicians. Tuesday, Nov. 8 at The Snow Goose Theater 717 W. Third Avenue.

My restaurant pick this week is a listing some of the best Happy Hours in Anchorage. Get out and delight in some perks during the dark season. Most Happy Hours are 4-6 Monday through Friday, but there are late night offerings as well. Call any of the following for Happy Hour details or go to their websites. Of all the offerings, Kinley’s is still the winner on the best food, but some other establishments are giving them a run for their money. Bernie’s Bungalow has a great Sunday Pasta Special for $5 and Orso’s/Brewhouse offers Tuesday Growler Night where you can get a deal on some of Alaska’s finest microbrew beer to go. Simon & Seafort’s still has the best view, but lately Table 6 has been very entertaining.
