The snow is creeping down the mountain at Alyeska. There is currently 30 inches of snow at the upper elevations and snowline has dropped to 2,000 feet.

 

Kid’s Halloween Carnival

Bring the whole family to the Kid’s Carnival at the Daylodge on Friday, Oct. 28 from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. for games, scary stories, candy bar walk, kid’s costume parade and a “family theme” costume contest. Admission is $3 per person or $10 for immediate family members and proceeds benefit Girdwood Schools.

Halloween Festivities

On Saturday, Oct. 29 the Alaska Railroad presents the Alyeska Mystery Train, a spooktacular dinner theater performance. Call 265-2494 or go to AlaskaRailroad.com to make a reservation. Late Saturday, the Daylodge will be transformed for a Halloween Concert with Static Cycle, a modern rhythmic power alt-rock band that MTV called “the hottest rock band in America.” Anchorage-based band A.T.F. will open the show. Doors open at 8:30 p.m. Admission is $10 and guests must be 21 or older. Advance tickets are available by calling 754-2275 or online.

Season Pass Sale Through October 31

The deadline is quickly approaching for discounted pricing on 2011/12 season passes and to roll over unused days on 2010/11 Powder Passes. Preseason pricing ends Sunday, Oct. 31. Passes can be purchased either online, at the Tram Ticket Office or by calling 754-2275. Ticket Office hours are 9:30 a.m. until 6 p.m., Friday to Sunday through October. There will be an additional opening on Monday, October 31 for the last day of the pre-season pass sale. Beginning Nov. 2 ticket office hours will be 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday.

Snow Film Series

Alyeska’s Snow Film Series features the best ski, snowboard and snowmachine films in the industry to get you ready for winter, craving snow and wishing you were out there riding. The next movie in the 2011/12 series on Wednesday, Nov. 2 will feature 4FRNT’s Loyalty, A Ski Movie and Powderwhore’s Breaking Trail at the Sitzmark at 7 p.m. Admission is $5 and the movie is open to all ages.

Community Ski Swaps

Ski swaps are a great way to upgrade your old gear without spending a fortune. The Girdwood Community All Sports will take place in the Daylodge on Saturday, Oct. 22 from noon to 5 p.m. Alyeska Ski Club will host the West High Ski Swap on Nov. 5 and 6. Show hours are noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday. Free admission. Check the Alyeska website or call 301-6318 for more information.

Pool Closure

The Hotel Alyeska pool, hot tub and fitness center will be closed for seasonal maintenance from Nov. 7 to Nov. 14.

Season Passholder Appreciation Day

Running a ski resort takes a community, and our season passholders are a HUGE part of our ability to grow and be sustainable. As a thank you to the 2011/12 Season Pass Holders, Alyeska Resort will open the ski area on Wednesday, Nov. 22, one day before opening day, just for passholders. Lifts will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., conditions permitting. Afterwards, head over to the Sitzmark where DJ Cross will be spinning from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
