Sports Swap October 22
The annual Four Valley Community School Sports Swap will be held at the Alyeska Daylodge on Saturday Oct. 22 from Noon to 5 p.m. Our annual Sports Swap fundraiser supports FVCS classes and programs. This is the must-go-to event of the year for those who want to swap and sell sports gear for the upcoming season. All gear qualifies, not just winter sporting gear. This is a great event to pick-up cross-country skis; ”new” skis for your kids, as well as backpacks, climbing gear, and even strollers! We will have it all and lots of it. Alyeska Resort and World Cup will have skis, jackets, and other nice items for sale. Come up to the Alyeska Daylodge on Saturday Oct. 22 and follow the signs to the swap.
This is a great time to clean out your storage and get rid of your old gear. Three easy steps to selling your gear at the Sports Swap: To get a jump on it, first pick-up tags and control sheets from the FVCS office at the Girdwood School (you can also do this the morning of the swap, but it’s easier to prepare your items ahead of time). Then tag and record your items to sell, and finally bring them to the Alyeska Daylodge between 9-11a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 22 to check them in with our volunteers. FVCS keeps 25 percent of the sales price, which goes directly to our programs.
Fall and Winter Class Registration a Success
Four Valley School class registration was a huge success, but time has not run out for you to register for FVCS classes or even take more classes. Programs will run through mid-January, and we have many classes that have yet to fill up. Pick-up a copy of our purple Program Guide, or see our web-site www.fourvalleys.org. You can still register for classes provided space is still available; call the FVCS office at 742-5317 or stop by the office located in the Girdwood School from 2:30-8 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Big Turnout of FVCS Cross Country Runners
You probably saw the FVCS Cross Country Running participants hitting the bike path in September. We had 40 kids sign up for this program, which concluded with runners attending a Healthy Futures jamboree in Anchorage. Many thanks to FVCS lead volunteer Cary Lukes and the dozen other parent volunteers who helped pull this successful program together.
Youth Indoor Soccer Program Underway
Youth indoor Soccer program recently began with a bang. Eighty plus kids practice and play games each week, and the potential chaos is managed by volunteer coaches and parents. In past years, or as long as anyone can remember, the soccer program has been managed by a group of volunteers led by Eileen Halverson.
Eileen took the program from an idea to reality that has reached over a thousand local kids over the years. This year Eileen and her family are taking a much-deserved break from the duties of volunteer soccer coach, organizer, referee, trainer, supporter and equipment manager. Thank you to Eileen for your outstanding contributions and legacy to the soccer program.
Adult Hoops Wins with Local Sponsor OTC
Calling adults who shoot hoops, you are in luck this fall. Local company OTC Web Design has generously sponsored the first 40 drop-ins who come to play pick-up basketball at the school gym Thursday evenings 6:45-8:30 p.m. Not available Oct. 27, Nov. 24, Dec. 22 and 29.
Local Yoga Teacher Offers Classes
Vinyasa Flow Yoga classes for all levels are being taught by local teacher Melanie Lombard on Wednesday mornings and evenings. See www.fourvalleys.org for details. Her first week classes left participants commenting enthusiastically about class. “This instructor will have a following very soon,” according to the students.
Live Healthy Instructional Classes
Immune Boosters is a new class being offered by Anna Marie Fleming, beginning Oct. 29. Learn how to supercharge your immune system with powerful foods and lifestyle habits. This class will cover the latest anticancer research and give you practical strategies for maximizing your immune potential. Samples and recipes included!

FVCS Receives Technology Grant
Quill and paper no more. FVCS recently received a much needed technology grant from the Rasmuson Foundation towards the purchase of new hardware as well as registration software. Changes to our organization are coming very soon! We are extremely grateful, and look forward to passing on convenience and streamlined systems to you. Thank you, Rasmuson Foundation!
