DOT needs a plan to make the Seward Highway safer
To the Editor:
Every time we read about another fatal Seward Highway crash, often killing the innocent drivers, you wonder what is the solution to reduce these tragic accidents.
I still feel that a temporary solution for certain sections of the Seward Highway would be concrete dividers. I realize there are certain narrow sections where this might not be possible, but in many sections of the highway this would be possible. It has been done on other highways.
It is often a sleepy driver that crosses the line or on certain spots where there is black ice, even careful drivers start sliding out of control. So it is not only drunk drivers that cause these head on collisions.
I hope the DOT comes up with a plan to reduce these many accidents instead of giving you reasons why nothing can be done.
We know a 4-lane highway is something that will not be built for many decades, so we have to come up with a practical solution for this killer highway.
