In Memory

Carol Laverne Howerton, 65

A Girdwood resident for over 30 years, Carol Laverne Howerton, 65, died of cancer, Aug. 22, 2011 in Georgia.

A generous, adventurous, avid reader, with the sweet voice of an angel, Carol was a light and pillar of strength to everyone who knew her.

In 1971, Carol married Mike Howerton, the love of her life. Their early-married life took them to California, Montana, and the far corners of the world, before settling in Girdwood, their final and favorite home.

Carol worked in the tour industry and was a CPA for several Girdwood businesses.

She was a tireless volunteer for the Girdwood Four Valleys Community School, but her real passion was studying the Word of God.

After Mike tragically died of cancer in Girdwood in 2007, Carol was heartbroken, so she moved to Georgia to be closer to family.

Carol requested no memorial service, but suggested those who wish to celebrate her life, do so while praising the Lord for her abundant life.

Contributions may be made in Carol’s name to: The Anchorage Gospel Rescue Mission.
