The Alaska State Troopers reported the following incidents. Any charges reported are merely accusations and the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
Motor Vehicle Collision
GIRDWOOD—Aug. 12 at around 8 p.m., Troopers responded to a motor vehicle collision at Mile 76 of the Seward Highway. An investigation determined that a 2006 Chevrolet SUV, driven by Nancy M. Dickens, age 44 of Palmer, was traveling northbound when she over corrected as she drifted toward the center line of the Seward Highway. The vehicle went off the road, rolled several times and landed upside down in the water. The driver and three passengers reported non-life threatening injuries and were transported to an Anchorage area hospital. Everyone reported wearing their seatbelts. The vehicle sustained approximately $9,000 in damages.
Assault
COOPER LANDING—Aug. 16 at approximately 5 p.m., the Troopers received a report of a Domestic Violence Assault that had occurred the previous night at the Princess RV Park in Cooper Landing. An investigation revealed that James Berry, age 61 of Cooper Landing had assaulted a female, V.B., age 54 of Cooper Landing. Berry was arrested and remanded to the Seward Jail without bail.
Assault
GIRDWOOD—Aug. 17 at around midnight Troopers responded to a residence in the Girdwood area on a report of a domestic disturbance. An investigation revealed that Dagmara J. Daibes, age 30 of Girdwood, assaulted her boyfriend/roommate. Daibes was arrested on the Domestic Violence Assault and remanded to the Anchorage Correctional Complex. Bail was set at $500 plus other conditions of release.
Driving While License Revoked/Warrant Arrest
GIRDWOOD—Aug. 26 at around 8 p.m., Troopers initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle for speeding 79 mph in a posted 65 mph zone near mile 95 of the Seward Highway in the safety corridor. An investigation revealed the driver of the vehicle, Richard T. Trannum VI, age 20 of Anchorage, was operating with a revoked driver’s license. Trannum also had two warrants for his arrest. The first warrant was for failure to appear original charge DUI and DWLR. The second warrant was for failure to appear original charge MCA. Trannum was issued a summons to appear in court for DWLR. Trannum was also issued a traffic citation for speeding. Trannum was then arrested on the two warrants and remanded to the Anchorage Jail. Bail was set at $750 cash / corporate. The vehicle was towed from the scene.
DUI
GIRDWOOD—Aug. 24 at approximately around 1 a.m., a Trooper stopped a 2004 Suzuki XL7 for speeding near mile 99.5 of the Seward Highway in Girdwood. An investigation revealed the driver, Janelle M. Williams, age 26 of Fairbanks was driving while under the influence of alcohol. Williams was arrested for DUI and later remanded to the Anchorage jail, held on $1,000 bail.
DUI
HOPE—Aug. 22 at around 7 p.m., a Girdwood Trooper responded to mile 5.5 Palmer Creek Road near Hope for the report of a suspicious male driving a older black pickup in the area. An investigation revealed Daniel Virgil Atkins, age 63 of Hope, was driving a 1967 black Ford pickup on the roadway while under the influence of alcohol and without a driver’s license. Atkins was arrested for DUI and NVOL and later remanded to the Anchorage jail where he was held until arraignments the next day.
