Special to the Turnagain Times
The Girdwood Nordic Ski Club is officially constructing the new Nordic trail system here in Girdwood.
Eagle River based Statewide Clearing Inc. has been working on the access route for the past week and now is beginning to construct the actual trail.
The wood chipped bed that you see from the end of Arlberg Road (shown on the map in pink) is the construction access route.
The 5K loop begins up trail in a counter-clockwise direction. We ask that you stay off this trail and construction area for the next five weeks.
There is large equipment present, and the operators may not see you hiking.
We have “Closed” signs posted at the trailhead, and common hiking routes through the nearby meadows.
The Project Manager for this new trail system is Jim Galanes. If you have any concerns, please contact Jim at The Boutet Company at: Tel 907-522-6776 or email at jgalanes@theboutetcompany.com.
Deb Essex is the President of the Girdwood Nordic Ski Club.
