Spotlight on Cooper Landing Shines

The tour of Cooper Landing’s local non-profit organizations on Aug. 18 was well attended despite the fact that some of the scheduled guests chose to attend Ted Steven’s memorial service held in Anchorage at the same time. Guests on the tour included state Rep. Paul Seaton and his wife Tina, U.S. Forest Service District Ranger Travis Mosley, Doug Letch from Sen. Gary Steven’s staff, and John Cox who was running for U.S. Representative.

Kenai Princess Lodge provided the bus for the tour and the chicken for the potluck dinner that night. Representative Seaton and Letch both spoke at the dinner and thanked the community for inviting them. Cox spoke and took questions from the community members and, candidate for Governor, Bill Walker did as well.

The next day was the Annual Sexy Senior Dumpster Cleaners appreciation luncheon at Kenai Princess Lodge. Seventy-two Sexy Seniors and guests celebrated 13 years of volunteer service. Mayme Ohnemus was the master of ceremonies. Senator Stevens, Rep. Seaton, Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly member Sue McClure, and Campfire USA CEO Barbara Dubovich all spoke. Dean Birmley, the eldest of the Sexy Senior Dumpster Cleaners, closed with a recitation of The Cremation of Sam McGee by Robert Service.

Silvers are in and Rainbows are Jumping

Fishing is great on the Kenai and the Russian Rivers. Coho Salmon are in both rivers and anglers are enjoying fishing for this, fun to catch, salmon species. Rainbow Trout and Dolly Varden are in the Kenai and the Russian Rivers feeding on salmon eggs and flesh. Now is a great time to gear up with egg patterns and flesh flies and go fishing.
