Trooper Report

The Alaska State Troopers reported the following incidents. Any charges reported are merely accusations and the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

Motor Vehicle Collision with a Moose

MOOSE PASS—Aug. 8 at around 6:40 p.m., Troopers stopped on a motor vehicle that was parked on the side of the road at 13.5 mile Seward Highway. An investigation revealed that the vehicle, a 2008 red Suzuki four door car, driven by Jessica Tetreault, age 33 of Birmingham Alabama, had been involved in a motor vehicle collision with a moose. There were no injuries reported on scene.

Motor Vehicle Collision

COOPER LANDING—Aug. 8 at about 3:42 p.m., Troopers responded to a motor vehicle collision on the Sterling Highway at Bean Creek Road. An investigation showed that Joon Yeo, 33 of California, was traveling north bound on the Sterling Highway. Two other vehicles being driven by Eddie Granger, 67 of Sterling, and Peter Cooke, 62 of Colorado, were stopped on the Sterling Highway waiting for Cooke to make a turn. Yeo’s vehicle struck Granger’s vehicle from behind, which forced Granger’s vehicle into Cooke’s vehicle. All occupants of the vehicles reported wearing their seat belts and denied any injuries. Yeo was given a citation for failing to exercise due care to avoid a collision.

Felony DUI, Driving While License Revoked, Resisting Arrest

GIRDWOOD—Aug. 11 at approximately 2 p.m., Troopers contacted a silver Toyota station wagon near mile 86 of the Seward Highway regarding a REDDI report. The operator of the vehicle was identified as Coleen S. Harrier, age 39, of Girdwood. Harrier was found to be operating the vehicle while impaired by alcohol and with a revoked driver’s license. Harrier also resisted arrest by force as she was taken into custody. Harrier was arrested for Felony DUI, DWLR and Resisting Arrest. Harrier was transported and remanded into Anchorage Jail with no bail.

Two Teens Rescued After Getting Lost off Winner Creek Trail

GIRDWOOD—Aug. 19 at around 12:40 a.m., Bob Messing, 49 of Girdwood, called Troopers to report that his 17-year-old son and his cousin, a 17-year-old visiting from Canada, were overdue from a hike up Winner Creek Trail in Girdwood.

Neither of the boys were equipped for the outdoors, nor did they have warm clothing, shelter, food or water. Fog delayed a helicopter search until around 6 a.m. when a Girdwood Trooper and Helo 1 responded to the area from Anchorage. Messing also hired a private helicopter to search for the boys.

Troopers found the two boys around 7 a.m. on a sandbar at Twentymile River. Both were suffering from mild hypothermia after being wet all-night and falling into the river. The boys were treated for hypothermia and released to their parents.
