Moose Pass kids attend the Moose Pass Library Summer Reading Program’s kayak orientation and safety instruction.

Library Summer Reading Program

Deanna Thomas arranged a “splashing good time” for the kids in the latest Summer Reading Program at the Moose Pass Library. On Wednesday, July 21, the children gathered by the rental kayaks at Trail Lake Lodge to get some “on land experience” from an Alaska 60 North instructor. He taught them how to get out of their kayak safely if they were to roll over in the water. They also went over other safety tips. This program piqued an interest in many of the kids to try out kayaking! Back at the library, books were available to checkout about canoeing and kayaking.

School Welcomes New Teacher

The town of Moose Pass is thrilled to welcome long-time resident, Jeff Clay, to the Moose Pass School. Mr. Clay recently transferred from Whittier and will be teaching all grades at the school. Mr. Clay has the complex task of teaching all grades, Kindergarten through 8th grade, although he is not expecting any 7th or 8th graders this coming school year. Moose Pass School is expected to have between 12 to 14 children for the 2010 school year. The first day of school is Aug. 24.
