Blueberry Festival August 21 & 22
Bring the whole family out for a celebration of our favorite super food on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 21 and 22 from noon until 6 p.m. at The Hotel Alyeska pond courtyard. This event features local arts and crafts booths, food vendors, lots of kid’s activities and the always-popular pie-eating contest. Alyeska’s culinary team will host demonstrations of favorite blueberry recipes, along with wine tastings from Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars. For a full schedule, go online to AlyeskaResort.com.
Blueberry Festival will also feature a full weekend of local music. Saturday’s line up includes AK Popstars, Chad & Cody, Scout Smith and Bootleg Brown. Sunday’s performers are Fireweed Flutes, Sarahndippity, AK Popstars and the 11:20’s.
Seven Glaciers Wine Dinner
Seven Glaciers restaurant will host a Wine Dinner featuring Estate and Single-Vineyard selections from Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars on Sunday, Aug. 22 at 7 p.m. Stag’s Leap is best known for estate-grown Cabernet Sauvignons in Napa Valley. Over the years, these wines have become some of the most highly regarded and collected wines worldwide. Each featured wine will be paired with a custom-selected Chef’s Tasting Menu. Alyeska Sidewalk Sale
The Second Annual Alyeska Sidewalk Sale will take place in the Tram hallway of The Hotel Alyeska during Blueberry Festival. Take advantage of up to 70 percent savings on select winter gear from The North Face, Burton, Black Diamond and more at the Alyeska Mountain Shop. Gift items will also be on sale at Glacier Gift & Gallery.
Creations Contest
Do you bake the best blueberry pie in the valley? Is your jam the highlight of every breakfast? Get creative and win great prizes (along with bragging rights) when you submit homemade baked goods, jams and jellies in the Blueberry Creations Contest. Entries must be submitted by 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 22 to qualify for judging. Winners will be announced at 5 p.m. Details online.
Disc Golf Grand Opening Tournament
Alyeska is proud to announce a new 9-hole disc golf course on the grounds of The Hotel Alyeska. The Grand Opening Tournament of the new course will take place Sunday, Aug. 21 at 6 p.m. Participants can sign up at the Blueberry information booth during the festival weekend between noon and 6 p.m. Entry into the tournament is free and the winner will receive two 2010-11 lift tickets. Yoga Workshops
Alyeska will be hosting a series of yoga sessions on Aug. 15, 22 and 29 from 5- 6:30 p.m. The sessions will include 90 minutes of Vinyasa flow yoga instruction and access to The Hotel Alyeska fitness center and pool for the day of the session. All participants receive a gift bag and chance to win a Prana prize package. Rates are $25 per session or $60 for all three. Call 754-2550 to reserve your space.
Fungus Fair
Fungus Fair is a weekend of forays, naturalist presentations and workshops taking place Aug. 27 to 29. Event highlights include a fun run, outdoor concert with the Denali Cooks in the hotel pond courtyard and the Fungus Fair Formal dinner, featuring local fungus treasures and paired wines. Tickets are available at the Tram Ticket Office or by calling 754-2275 and the cost is $100 per person or $600 per table for eight. This event benefits the Girdwood Trails Committee.
