The Alaska State Troopers reported the following incidents. Any charges reported are merely accusations and the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
DUI
MILE 93 SEWARD HIGHWAY—July 2 at around 10:20 p.m., The Alaska Bureau of Highway Patrol, Kenai Peninsula Team-Girdwood contacted Nicholas Urrea, age 24 of Anchorage, after the vehicle he was operating was stopped for speeding near mile 93 of the Seward Highway. An investigation revealed that Urrea was operating a motor vehicle while impaired and under the influence of alcohol. Urrea was arrested and remanded into the custody of Anchorage jail with bail set at $500.
DUI
MILE 94 SEWARD HIGHWAY—July 2 around midnight, The Alaska Bureau of Highway Patrol, Kenai Peninsula Team Girdwood contacted Ron Louk, age 49 of Anchorage, after the vehicle he was operating was stopped for crossing the centerline near mile 94 of the Seward Highway. An investigation revealed that Louk was operating a motor vehicle while impaired and under the influence of alcohol. Louk was arrested and remanded into the custody of Anchorage jail with bail set at $500.
Felony Eluding, Driving with Revoked License
MILE 93 SEWARD HIGHWAY—July 3 at around 8 p.m., The Alaska Bureau of Highway Patrol, Kenai Peninsula Team-Girdwood attempted to stop a black 2006 Suzuki motorcycle for traveling at 90 MPH near mile 93 of the Seward Highway. The motorcycle failed to yield to AST and sped away reaching speeds of 140-150 MPH. The motorcycle turned onto Indian Valley Road and the driver fled into the woods. The driver who was later identified as Radames Velazquez-Figueroa, age 26 , of Anchorage , was taken into custody near Rand and Reindeer Drive in Indian. Investigation revealed that Velazquez-Figueroa was operating a motor vehicle with a revoked license and when he was signaled to stop he eluded Troopers. Velazquez-Figueroa was arrested and transported to Anchorage jail with bail set at $2,500 cash only. Velazquez-Figueroa was charged with Felony Eluding and Driving While License Revoked.
Marijuana Possession/Driving While License Suspended
GIRDWOOD—July 3 at around 3:30 a.m., a Trooper contacted Kamphan Keooupalath, age 24 of Anchorage, during a traffic stop for speeding near mile 82 of the Seward Hwy. An investigation revealed that Keooupalath was operating a vehicle with a revoked California operator’s license. He summons to appear in court on the charge of DWLR. A passenger in the vehicle, 18-year-old Anchorage resident Grayson Hartnett, was found to be in possession of a small amount of marijuana. Hartnett was summons to appear in court on the charge of Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance in the 6th Degree. Both were released at the scene.
Driving While License Suspended
GIRDWOOD—July 3 at approximately 7:35 p.m., a Trooper contacted Donald Revels, age 29 of Palmer, during a welfare check on a disabled vehicle near mile 72 of the Seward Highway. An investigation revealed that Revels had been operating the vehicle prior to it breaking down. Revels was summons to appear in court on the charge of DWLS and released at the scene.
Probation Violation
GIRDWOOD—July 3 at 3:30 a.m., The Alaska Bureau of Highway Patrol, Kenai Peninsula Team-Girdwood contacted Drew Dean, age 25 of Anchorage in Girdwood. An investigation revealed that Dean was in violation of his probation for Felony DUI by consuming alcohol. Dean was arrested and transported to Anchorage jail where he was held without bail.
Disorderly Conduct, Attempted Eluding, Reckless Driving, Assault IV, and Marijuana Possession
MILE 106 SEWARD HIGHWAY—July 3 at approximately 8:39 a.m., the Troopers Bureau of Highway Patrol, Kenai Peninsula Team-Girdwood stopped a vehicle near mile 106 of the Seward Highway after the vehicle was observed driving recklessly. The operator was identified as Deron J. Jetton, age 19, of Anchorage. An investigation revealed Jetton was in possession of marijuana. When Jetton was confronted about the marijuana he ran to his vehicle and attempted to leave the scene. A struggle ensued and Jetton kicked the Trooper several times while he was being detained. Two passing motorists stopped and assisted the Trooper in detaining Jetton. Jetton was arrested and charged with Disorderly Conduct, Attempted Eluding, Reckless Driving, Assault IV on a Peace Officer, and Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance VI. Jetton was remanded at the anchorage jail were he was held on $1,000 cash only bail.
DUI, Minors Consuming Alcohol, Minor Operating after Consuming Alcohol
GIRDWOOD—July 3 at about 2 a.m., the Troopers Bureau of Highway Patrol, South Central Team stopped a 1993 Honda Accord for speeding on the Alyeska Highway at Timberline Drive, in Girdwood. The driver was identified as Michelle Erickson, 19, of Anchorage. An investigation revealed that Erickson was driving while under the influence of alcohol. Erickson was arrested for DUI, MCA, and Minor Operating after Consuming Alcohol. Erickson was booked into the Mat Su Pre Trial Facility where her bail was set at $300.00. The vehicle was released to a sober party on scene. Three passengers in the vehicle identified as Benjamin Luedtke, 19, of Chugiak, Justin Hjelm, 18, of Anchorage, and a 17 year-old female from Anchorage, were also issued citations for Minor Consuming Alcohol.
Violate Conditions of Release, Minor Consuming Alcohol
GIRDWOOD—July 3 at 2:30 a.m., the Alaska Bureau of Highway Patrol, Kenai Peninsula Team-Girdwood contacted Sergey Malyk, age 19 of Anchorage, after the vehicle he was in was stopped for a traffic violation near Alyeska Highway and Timberline in Girdwood. An investigation revealed that Malyk had consumed alcohol while being under the age of 21. Further investigation revealed that Malyk is currently out on bail for a previous DUI. He has a condition to not consume alcohol while out on bail. Malyk was arrested and remanded into the custody of Anchorage jail with bail set at $500.
DUI
COOPER LANDING—July 3 at approximately 5:40 p.m., Troopers received a report of a dangerous driver traveling southbound on the Seward Highway from milepost 48. A Bureau of Highway Patrol Northern Team member intercepted and contacted the driver of the vehicle described in the REDDI (Report Every Dangerous Driver Immediately) report. An investigation revealed that Jay E. Hursey, 54, of Anchorage was operating his Chevrolet Suburban while impaired by alcohol. Hursey was arrested and remanded to the Seward Jail with a $500 bail.

GIRDWOOD—July 4 at around 4:30 a.m., The Alaska Bureau of Highway Patrol, Kenai Peninsula Team-Girdwood contacted Shawna Kionka, age 26, of Anchorage at the Alyeska Resort , after the vehicle she was operating was stopped for a traffic violation. An investigation revealed that Shawna was operating a motor vehicle while impaired and under the influence of alcohol. Shawna was arrested and transported to the Anchorage Jail where she was held on $500 bail.

MILE 92 SEWARD HIGHWAY—July 4 at 3:30 a.m., the Troopers Bureau of Highway Patrol, South Central Team stopped a 2008 Dodge pickup for a moving violation at mile 92.5 Seward Highway, near Girdwood. The driver was identified as Shawn Adgerson,19, of Anchorage. An investigation revealed that Adgerson had consumed alcohol while being under the age of 21, Adgerson also drove a vehicle after consuming alcohol. Adgerson was issued citations for Minor Consuming Alcohol and Minor Operating a vehicle after consuming alcohol. The passenger in the vehicle was identified as Jesse Duvall, 20, of Ft. Richardson. An investigation revealed that Duvall had also consumed alcohol while being under the age of 21. Duvall was cited for Minor Consuming Alcohol. The vehicle was released to a sober person on scene.

INDIAN—July 4 at 12:49 a.m., the Troopers Bureau of Highway Patrol, South Central Team stopped a 2001 Chevy Tahoe for speeding at mile 99.5 Seward Highway, in Indian. The driver was identified as Jessica Stangl, 20, of Anchorage). An investigation revealed that Stangl had consumed alcohol while being under the age of 21, Stangl also drove a vehicle after consuming alcohol. Stangl was issued a citation for Minor Consuming Alcohol and Minor operating a vehicle after consuming alcohol. The vehicle was released to a sober person on scene.
Criminal Mischief
GIRDWOOD—July 4 at around 2 a.m., a Trooper responded to Crystal Mountain Road in Girdwood for the report of a female vandalizing a truck and throwing rocks at the windows of a building. An investigation revealed Gloria Rose Chythlook, age 46 of Girdwood, was actively throwing rocks at the building when contacted by the Trooper and had damaged a Dodge pickup in the parking lot near by. Chythlook was arrested for Criminal Mischief III and later remanded to the Anchorage Jail, held on $250 bail. Damages to the truck were estimated at $600.
Minor Consuming Alcohol
GIRDWOOD—July 5 at 12:51 a.m., a Trooper responded to a residence located on Davos Road in Girdwood for the report of a drunken teen. An investigation revealed the 17-year-old male was highly intoxicated and was issued an Alaska Uniform Citation for Minor Consuming Alcohol and later released to a parent in Anchorage.
Assault
COOPER LANDING—July 4 at around midnight, Troopers were contacted by a female who reported that she had just been assaulted by her boyfriend. An investigation showed that Rene Grant, 37 of Anchorage, had assaulted the female at their campsite in Cooper Landing. Grant was arrested and remanded into the Seward Jail without incident. Alcohol was a factor in this incident.
Reckless Driving
GIRDWOOD—July 4 at 8:30 p.m., a Trooper stopped a 2003 Mazda and a 2000 Nissan Altima for racing near mi 90 Seward Highway. The drivers, Randyradhaimes Reinoso-Mercedes, age 26 of Anchorage, and Luis Batista-Mercedes, age 19 of Anchorage were both issued a summons for Reckless Driving and released on scene.
DUI
GIRDWOOD—July 4 at around 10:30 p.m., a Trooper stopped a 1999 Volkswagen Jetta near Girdwood Tesoro after it was observed crossing the centerline. The driver, Joshua J. West, age 30 of Palmer was arrested for DUI and later remanded to the Anchorage Jail, held on $3,500 plus third party.
DUI/Driving While License Cancelled/No IID Device Installed/MICS VI/Warrant Arrest
MILE 95 SEWARD HIGHWAY—July 4 at 11:53 p.m., the Troopers Bureau of Highway Patrol, South Central Team stopped a 2002 Chevy pickup for multiple violations at mile 95 Seward Highway near Girdwood. The driver was identified as Robert Kattness, 25, of Anchorage. An investigation revealed that Kattness was driving while under the influence of alcohol. Kattness was also driving with a cancelled license, No IID Device Installed in his vehicle. Kattness also was in possession of marijuana. Kattness was arrested and booked into the Anchorage Jail where his bail was set at $750.00 plus a court approved third party custodian. The vehicle was impounded on scene. The passenger in the vehicle was identified as Johnny Ward, 37, of Anchorage. Ward had a bench warrant for his arrest, original charge of DUI. Ward was also arrested and booked into the Anchorage Jail, bail $1,000.
Burglary, Criminal Mischief, Theft
COOPER LANDING—July 5 at 7:30 a.m., Troopers received a report of a burglary that had happened at a business in Cooper Landing. An investigation showed that in the early morning hours of July 5 an adult male had broken into the business and stole money and damaged property. The incident was caught on video and the investigation is ongoing.
Minor Consuming Alcohol
MOOSE PASS—July 5 at around 6:43 a.m., a Trooper contacted a 17-year-old juvenile male at mile 27 of the Seward Highway, after the vehicle he was in was stopped in the middle of the road. An investigation revealed the juvenile had been consuming alcohol while under the age of 21. The juvenile was charged with MCA and will appear in the Seward Court at a later date.
Driving With License Revoked
MOOSE PASS—July 5 at 6:30 a.m., The Bureau of Highway Patrol Northern Team conducted a traffic stop near Moose Pass at Milepost 33 of the Seward Highway on a 2003 Silver Dodge Ram pick up truck for a moving violation. The driver was identified as Thomas Joseph Boor, 37, of Anchorage. An investigation showed Boor was driving a motor vehicle at a time when his driver’s license was revoked. Boor was notified to appear in court and was cited for the moving violation.
Search and Rescue
COOPER LANDING—July 5 at 1:24 p.m., Troopers received a 911 call that a boat with 6 people on board had sunk in Kenai Lake. The caller reported that all of the occupants had made it to shore and were wet and cold. One of the occupants had sustained non-life threatening injuries. An investigation showed that the six people and camping gear had been on a 14-foot boat in heavy swells. Life jackets were available but the passengers did not wear them. Troopers, Alaska Wildlife Troopers and Cooper Landing EMS medics responded and retrieved the party. The people were identified as Thomas Donaldson, 27, of Anchorage, Rachael Donaldson, 26, of Anchorage, Megan Reider, 26, of Anchorage, Lauren Nance, 23, of Anchorage, Alison Lehmkuhl,23, of Anchorage, and Hollie Cooper, 26, of Colorado.
Driving While License Revoked
COOPER LANDING—July 8 at 5:30 p.m., a Trooper conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle at mile 47.5 of the Sterling Highway after observing 40-year-old Kevin Jackson, of Seward, operating the vehicle. The Trooper knew Jackson from previous contacts and knew his Alaska driver’s license was in revoked status. Jackson was subsequently arrested for DWLR and transported to and remanded at the Seward Jail. The vehicle was released to licensed driver.
