Tap Root is having Trampled By Turtles, a band from Duluth, Minnesota. Though they did not set out to be a “bluegrass” band, they are acoustic and have a lonesome, soul-deep deadly accurate sound. They are described as Mid-Western Blue-collar with some Townes Van Zandt thrown in. Without press or radio support or a national release until now, Tramples By Turtles have been playing to sold-out shows nationwide. They performed at SXSW for the first time this year and they’re even getting their own star at the legendary Minneapolis club, First Avenue. The show is Wednesday, July 28. 9 p.m. Tap Root Cafe is located at 3300 Spenard Road (on the corner of 33rd & Spenard) For information: 345-0282.

Urban Sushi Spot is my pick of the week. Maximillian owns and operates this clean, darling new sushi spot. He prepared me his Special Roll that is all cooked. It was beautifully presented and delicious. He will have alcohol in a few weeks he said. I like sushi with sake, but he did have great tea and the miso soup was tasty. Urban Sushi Spot, 509 W. 3rd Avenue. For information or To-go orders: 258-5326.
