Community garden volunteers sort through pieces of what will be a shed.

Dear Diary, today my morning meal was a pancake breakfast at the 108 year old Social Hall. With a full tummy, I walked to the library and found some great skis at the community garage sale. The people were so happy and kind, it was most certainly contagious. Tonight I'm heading back down to Main Street for some bluegrass tunes from the outdoor stage in front of the Seaview. It must be summer in Hope. Boy, do I feel lucky.

Let the River Run

After nearly two weeks of high water levels on Six Mile Creek, local rafting guides are rejoicing that the water is back down to a manageable level. With the water down, guided float trips may recommence and those same guides can work at getting their wallets up to a manageable level. Now go earn your supper rafters.

Porcupine Campground Closed for the Season

Work has gotten underway for the renovation of the Porcupine Campground, located at the end of the Hope Highway. There will be no camping available at the campground for the rest of the season. Weep not friends, Alaska Dacha and The Seaview are still able to accommodate RVs. And for the rest of you, well it looks like you're just going to have to pitch a tent.

Garden Talks

Every Monday at 9 a.m. there will be a discussion at the community garden. Topics will be announced on a week-by-week basis. This is just another reason to love our garden. As if it's not enough that it is located on a lush green field ripe for Frisbee tossing with a jungle gym for the kids nearby.

Reading and Technology Assistance

Does the word Excel scare you? Is opening an email about as far as you can get with a computer? Or do you even have trouble with that? No problem! Every week, Monday through Friday from noon-1p.m. technology assistance is available at the Hope Library. Brittany Foster is ready to help anyone interested hone their techie skills. This is a great opportunity to utilize our local resources and get your mind ahead.

Bike rental shop may be coming to Hope

A little birdie told Hope Happenings that soon, bike rentals will be available in Hope. I told this birdie that surely, she must be mistaken. She told me to stay tuned for further details.

Land of the Midnight Sun

Before you know it, solstice will be here once again. This year's solstice is on June 21 (of course) at exactly 4:57 p.m. Hope residents ask that visitors please respect our pristine nature and quiet town. Please, no fireworks and take your potty breaks in the public restrooms located on Main Street. Remember, there are 150 souls living here.

Gemini Neighbors Abound

Perhaps June should be considered Hope's Birthday Month. This month is overflowing with birthdays; Dave Scanlan, Josh Anderson, Wren Durrant, Kent Bowman, Doug Pope, Tom Miller, and the list goes on. Happy birthday peeps!
