Passengers enjoy beautiful views of Portage Glacier and the creative talent of Monica Estill on the 2009 GCVA “Art on the Lake” cruise. Join the GCVA for this year's cruise Thursday, June 24, at 6:00 p.m. Tickets are available at GCVA - 783-3209. Cruise donated by Portage Glacier Cruises/HAP Alaska Yukon.

The highly anticipated second annual “Art on the Lake” fundraiser for Girdwood Center for Visual Arts is planned for Thursday evening, June 24, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. If you joined us last year on this wonderful cruise, you know you're in for a real treat once again. It's an evening filled with art, music, delicious food and wine and the beauty of Alaska.

The M.V. Ptarmigan will tour pristine Portage Lake and stop in front of the glacier and adjacent waterfalls. During the cruise, artists Anna Young and Katie Cronk will be creating while the boat lazily circles the lake. Artist and Forest Service naturalist, Mary Bloom, will also be on board encouraging and assisting those who wish to try their hand at sketching. Near the end of the cruise, art created by Anna, Katie and Mary will be raffled off to some lucky passengers!

Musicians Eli Whitney and Cade Loving will entertain as you sip wine and enjoy hors d'oeuvres while visiting with friends, soaking in the scenery and observing the artists create. Bring along your family, friends or out of town guests and enjoy a truly memorable summer evening.

The cruise is once again graciously donated by Portage Glacier Cruises HAP Alaska Yukon and all proceeds go to Girdwood Center for Visual Arts to promote art opportunities in the Girdwood community. Tickets are $50 per person ($30 for 12 years old and under) and include the cruise, wine (beer and non-alcoholic drinks also available) and hors d'oeuvres.

Tickets are available at the GCVA gallery located next to The Bake Shop on Olympic Mountain Loop. You may also call GCVA at 783-3209 and have your tickets held for “will call” at the dock. Please arrive at the dock no later than 5:45 PM, as the M.V. Ptarmigan will depart at 6:00 p.m. sharp. See you on board.

GCVA Community Mural Painting Planned for June 19

Mark your calendars—the fifth annual Girdwood Center for Visual Arts Community Mural painting will take place on Saturday, June 19, from noon until 4:00 p.m. The mural is located next to the playground in Little Bears Park. GCVA is pleased to announce that this year's guest artists are Beth Taylor and Katharine Adams. Both Beth and Katharine are GCVA Co-op artists and they are sure to create a wonderful and imaginative design.

Plan to attend this fun-filled family oriented community event. Brushes, paints and all supplies are provided. All you need to bring is your artistic talent! Beth and Katharine will sketch out their design on the mural and children and adults alike are encouraged to paint.

Please keep in mind that an adult must accompany all children under 10. We look forward to seeing you there.
