The Alaska State Troopers reported the following incidents. Any charges reported are merely accusations and the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
Marijuana Possession
COOPER LANDING—May 4 at 7 p.m., Troopers stopped a vehicle near mile 38 of the Sterling Highway for a traffic violation. The driver was identified as Daniel Graham, 19 of Kasilof, who was found to be in possession of a small amount of marijuana. Graham was given a citation to appear in court at a later date for MICS 6th and released at the scene.
Search and Rescue
WHITTIER—May 8 at 5 p.m., Whittier Police requesting Trooper assistance with a search and rescue involving an unknown snow machine rider contacted Soldotna Dispatch. A Girdwood State Trooper responded to the scene via snow machine and located Travis Allen Smith, age 27 of Girdwood approximately 7 miles from Whittier, perched on the side of Whittier Glacier with his riding party. Smith was in and out of consciousness, hypothermic, and was suffering from an injured back and neck. A Life Med helicopter was utilized from Anchorage and landed near the scene. A backboard was used to facilitate hand carrying Smith to the helicopter located about 600 yards away. Smith was flown to Providence Hospital in Anchorage for treatment.
Felony DUI, Driving While License Revoked, Avoidance of an Ignition Interlock Device, MICS 6th
MOOSE PASS—May 9 at 12:15 p.m., Troopers stopped a vehicle near mile 32 of the Seward Highway after receiving a REDDI report on the vehicle and observing it speeding. An investigation showed that the driver, 45-year-old Michael High of Anchorage, was under the influence of alcohol and had a revoked drivers' license. Further investigation showed that High was required to have an ignition interlock device installed on any vehicle that he drove and the vehicle did not have one. High was also found to be in possession of marijuana. High was arrested and remanded into the Seward Jail without incident.
Driving While License Revoked
MOOSE PASS—May 12 at 1:30 p.m., Troopers stopped a vehicle near mile 35 of the Seward Highway for a traffic violation. An investigation showed that the driver, 32-year-old Jesson May of Anchorage, was driving with a suspended license. May was given a citation to appear in court at a later date and released at the scene.
