The Alaska State Troopers reported the following incidents. Any charges reported are merely accusations and the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
Driving While License Suspended
MOOSE PASS—March 13 at around 4 p.m., a Crown Point based State Trooper stopped a vehicle at 45 mile Seward Highway for an equipment violation. An investigation revealed that the driver, Bo Lee Armknecht, 20 years old of Soldotna, was driving while his license was suspended. Armknecht was issued a misdemeanor citation and released.
Driving While License Suspended
GIRDWOOD—March 16 at 2:50 p.m., Troopers arrested Bryan De Vera Remuto, age 29 of Anchorage, for Driving While License Suspended. Remuto was operating a late model sport utility vehicle. Remuto was contacted on a traffic stop for speeding. Remuto was issued traffic citations for speeding and no proof of vehicle insurance. Remuto was released at the scene and issued a misdemeanor mandatory court appearance citation for DWLS. Remuto's vehicle was released to his licensed passenger.
Motor Vehicle Crash
GIRDWOOD—March 18 at approximately 7:30 p.m., a Trooper from Girdwood responded to the report of a motor vehicle crash near mile 69 of the Seward Highway. An investigation revealed that Zachary Daniels, age 28 of Kenai, had been driving north on the Seward Hwy. in a Ford Taurus sedan when he lost control in blizzard conditions and struck a snow bank. A short time later a black Dodge pickup operated by Otto Thiele, age 66 of Kenai, lost control in the same area and struck a guard rail, and then Daniel's vehicle. Damage to each vehicle is estimated at $3,000 and the damage to the guard rail is estimated at $1,500.
DUI/Eluding II
GIRDWOOD—March 20 at 5:10 p.m., a Trooper to stop a 1996 Saturn sedan near mile 60 Seward Highway for several equipment violations. The vehicle failed to yield and was pursued for 5 miles stopping near mi 65 Seward Highway in Turnagain Pass. An investigation revealed the driver, Robert Earl Dwiggins Jr. age 59 of Anchorage, was driving under the influence of alcohol. Dwiggins was arrested for DUI and Eluding 2nd degree. Dwiggins was later remanded to the Anchorage Jail with bail set at $10,000.
Driving While License Suspended
GIRDWOOD—March 21 at 7:38 p.m., a Crown Point based Trooper stopped a vehicle at 29 mile Seward Highway for an equipment violation. An investigation revealed that the driver, Jeffrey Allen Sutphin, 29 years old of Moose Pass, was driving while his license was suspended. Sutphin was issued a misdemeanor citation and released.
Motor Vehicle Collision
GIRDWOOD—March 28 at around 12:30 a.m., a Trooper responded to the intersection of the Seward Highway and Alyeska Highway for the report of a vehicle collision. Investigation revealed William Joseph Vincent, age 26 of Wyoming, was driving a 2005 Toyota Tacoma pickup southbound on the Alyeska Highway when he failed to stop for a stop sign and crossed the Seward Hwy where he collided with a guard rail face, destroying nearly 150 feet of railing before plunging into the ditch on the other side. Vincent said he was wearing a seat belt and was not injured. The vehicle sustained approximately $7,000 in damages. Damage to the guard rail is estimated at $ 8,000. Vincent was issued citations for Failure to Stop at a Stop Sign and Driver to Exercise Due Care to Avoid a Collision.
DUI
MOOSE PASS—March 28 at around 3:30 p.m., a Trooper stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation at mile 46 of the Seward Highway. An investigation revealed that Lynn Michael Rawson, 49 years old of Kenai, was driving while under the influence. Rawson was arrested for DUI and later charged with refusal to submit to chemical test. Rawson was remanded into the Seward jail.
