Now is about the time when we start paying the price for a winter's worth of dog business everywhere. But no worries, we are happy to sustain our olfactory senses when our eyes see the dirt peeking through the slushy snow and our ears hear a drip, drip, dripping. We come out of our caves and stretch out to shake off another winter. Even if it dumps again, the springtime wheels are turning.
Young Motoyama shines at the State Basketball Championships
Playing with the Ninilchik Wolverines basketball team, Hope's own Brittani Motoyama helped lead the ladies to the state 2A championship final game. The Wolverines were not able to overcome the undefeated Skagway Panthers but Hope couldn't be prouder of Brittani, who earned herself an MVP award for the final game and was her team's highest scorer. Out of over 90 teams in the state's 2a division, only sixteen made it to the state tournament. Way to rock it all the way to the final game Ninilchik. Woot, woot.
Easter Egg Hunt
It's time for that ageless spring ritual that revolves around eggs. Eggs have been given out for spring celebrations since Mesopotamian times. Like bunnies, eggs symbolize fertility, seed, and the promise of spring. But for Hope kids, the eggs hidden and found on April 4 will symbolize chocolate. Grab your kids and head over to the school Sunday, April 4 at 11 a.m. for the annual Easter Egg Hunt. Be sure to have them bring their own basket. This Hope Chamber of Commerce sponsored event is kindly overseen by Diane Olthius.
Click It or Ticket
Yes, Mr. Officer, we know that you are just doing your job by issuing tickets to Hopeites for not wearing seat belts. Yes, we know that in even in our one horse town it is still the law to wear seat belts to hop on over to the post office. But did you know, Mr. Officer, that an effective way to cultivate an adversarial relationship with civilians is to show up in their town one day on the high and mighty white horse of Click It or Ticket with pen at the ready? No warnings allowed, just you, on that horse. Hope you don't get bucked off.
Chamber of Commerce collecting dues
In light of the many projects that the Chamber of Commerce would like to implement, such as advertising, website optimization, kiosk landscaping, and a road sign, to name a few, the dues have been raised from the fantastically low $25 a year to $50 a year.
In addition to new projects, the Chamber will continue to publish a visitor map with local business locations and contact information. Future events include the second annual Hope Open House on Saturday, June 5 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. This event gives visitors a chance to peruse through our restaurants and shops with tasty incentives, like cookies, waiting for them.
The Social Hall will also be open to the public during the Open House. There will be delicious chili available and locally made handcrafted goods for sale. In addition, local businesses will be there to offer the public information on the services they offer. Contact event organizer Lisa Simono for further information.
The next Chamber of Commerce meeting will be held in the library on April 10 at 3 p.m. If any members would like to pay their dues before the next meeting, they may mail them to P.O. Box 89.
Walk-In Clinic April 5
Still have that cough that won't go away? Did you wake up with a sore throat? If you have any of these symptoms and it is Monday April 5, you are in luck. No drive to Anchorage for you. Seward Public Health Nurse Lois Daubney will be conducting a walk-in clinic at the Hope School on this day from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Hope Inc.
Look deep into my eyes… you are getting very sleepy…repeat after me, “I want to be Hope Inc. treasurer, I have always wanted to be Hope Inc. treasurer.”
The next Hope Inc. meeting will be April 17 at 7 p.m. in the Social Hall. Mark your calendars and bring your bells.
