Trapping incident in Portage sparks outrage in community
To the Editor,
The result of the recent article on trapping in Portage in the Turnagain Times Feb. 4 issue caused members of the community of Portage to speak out in disbelief and outrage over a recent trapping incident in Portage. The Portage Valley Community Council has begun the process to develop a resolution seeking to change trapping areas in Portage Valley. Open discussion on this matter is to be held at the next Portage Valley Community Council meeting on March 22 at 4 p.m.

GBOS thankful for booster money for Library and Community Center
The following letter was sent to the Gerrish Library and Girdwood Community Center and the Library Boosters.
Dear Diana,
We wanted to set down in words for posterity the gratitude the Girdwood Board of Supervisors feels for the Library Boosters concerning your paying the $36,000 interest fees on the loan the Municipality gave bus to build the Library and Community Center. This facility will be a Girdwood landmark for decades to come and is a testament to what hard work, perseverance, and community spirit can do.
There are always costs that arise at the end of any job, and this one was a surprise to us, and something we hadn't budgeted for. Your action saved us from having to dedicate the funds from the fund balance, freeing those monies to maintain our reserve or, ultimately, returned to the taxpayers of Girdwood.
As a group and as individuals, you are great sustainers of Girdwood.
Sincerely,
The Girdwood Board of Supervisors
