A Hope snowboarder ponders the alpenglow beauty of Turnagain Pass.
Really though, this is a truly glorious time in the calendar year for us Turnagain Arm inhabitants. The sun keeps laying it on thicker than the day before, there are no RVs on the road, no bugs driving us insane whenever we go outside, and even though we're still skiing, the seed catalogs are on the table. We are loving it.
Hope Inc. Quorum
Stop the press; there were enough Hope Inc. community members at the Feb. 22 meeting that a quorum was reached! Those who attended received the pleasant news that Hope has been approved for a two-year grant from the Kenai Peninsula Borough Community Revenue Sharing Program. Other meeting discussions included adding the finishing touches to the public restrooms, and land at the school being secured for the community garden (yes!). The next Hope Inc. meeting will be held in April.
Chamber Moves Forward With Kiosk
Many thoughts and ideas were afloat during the Feb. 27 meeting of the Hope Chamber of Commerce. Plans to construct a small visitor information kiosk are underway. The Chamber awaits approval from the library to place the kiosk on the library grounds. Other plans underway include investing in a professionally designed website.
Mega Ladies-Only Bunco Night
March 17 is the date for the Shirley Wisdorf hosted bunco party. This ladies-only event will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the Hope School. Here's how it works, you prepare the most delicious appetizer in your repertoire to share, scrounge together $3, and get your wrist ready for some serious rolling of the dice. Maybe you will be the lucky big money winner. Whatever the case may be, it's good to keep in mind that what happens at bunco, stays at bunco. Anyone wanting to participate should R.S.V.P. with Mrs. Wisdorf to ensure sufficient dice and seating. And for those of you who just want to know more about the fascinating world of Bunco, Hope Happenings urges you to check out the official website of the World Bunco Association at www.worldbunco.com. Find rules, history, and breaking bunco news.
Time for Trivia
Since using R.S.V.P. up yonder, Hope Happenings would like to take a moment to let our readers know what R.S.V.P. stands for. It is French for “repondez s'il vous plait”, or translated, “please respond.” Makes sense doesn't it?
School Silent Auction
The yearly auction at the school is just around the corner. Get your dollar bills in a row for the March 27 event. Please contact Angie or April at the school if you have something that you would like to donate, like that old guitar, or snowboard, or signed Machetanz. Remember, one man's junk.

Really Neat Thoughts
No doubt that Hope is a very cool name for a town such as our own. Just saying the word can sometimes remind us to keep our heads up when it might be easier to keep them down. In parting, a couple of gems for you. The first is from Winston Churchill:
“The pessimist sees difficulty in every opportunity. The optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty.”
And one from Ralph Waldo Emerson:
“We judge a man's wisdom by his hope.”
