A fundraising rib dinner at the community hall Feb. 20 was a good time to catch up with friends, enjoy delicious food, and support Cooper Landing Senior Citizen Corp. Inc. Kathy Recken and Nick Vanderhoff visit with Laura Johnson and baby Olive and Tom Farrington during the dinner.
Rib Dinner a Huge Success
Cooper Landing responded to Arden Rankin's reputation of excellent cooking when 80-plus people turned out for the Cooper Landing Senior Citizen Corp. Inc.'s fund raising rib dinner at the community hall on Feb. 20. Barbecued ribs that fell off the bone were featured with all the accompanying dishes from cheesy appetizers to tiny lemon tarts. The western theme included a life size cut out poster of “the Duke” guarding the dessert table.
Residents Enjoy “Grease”
George Anderson drove the senior bus, full of theatergoers, to Kenai Sat. afternoon, Feb. 27, for dinner at Louie's and the performance of “Grease” at Kenai High School. I heard the bus was full of chatter all the way home as they talked about the excellent music, the talented performers, and the wonderful costumes.
Estate Planning Workshop Informative and Fun
Richard Foley's estate planning workshop, a Cooper Landing Community School project, also had a good attendance in Helen Gwin Commons at Eagles View Senior Independent Housing on Feb. 25. Richard is an animated speaker and enjoyed interacting with attendees and answering questions. His PowerPoint presentation included tools for estate planning, wills, trusts, probate, powers of attorney, and much more. The quest for adoptive parents for Tom Farrington did not meet with success, but lots of good-natured teasing. Ron Sloan and Shirley Wilmoth brought refreshments.

Melissa Fouse Becomes Sexy Senior
When Melissa Fouse visited Cooper Landing for a few days last week, Mayme and I initiated her into the Sexy Senior Dumpster Cleaners at the Hope transfer site, and into Wii bowling at Sunrise Inn. She beat all of us. There will be a rematch. Thanks to Sharon for setting us up and to Charlotte for making our avatars. Melissa and her mother, Margaret Branson, owned and operated the Turquoise Barabara here years ago. Melissa's is currently personal property appraising. She worked for Senator Arlis Sturgelewski for years and as a lobbyist so we enjoyed talking about our recent trip to the capitol and comparing notes on legislators.
