Trooper Report

The Alaska State Troopers reported the following incidents. Any charges reported are merely accusations and the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

Driving While License Revoked

GIRDWOOD—Jan. 7 at around 4 p.m., Troopers arrested Ronald Young for driving while his license was revoked. Young was operating a late model passenger car and contacted on a traffic stop near mile 80 of the Seward Hwy for exceeding the posted speed limit. Young was issued a traffic citation for speeding. The vehicle was released to his license passenger. Young was arrested for the DWLR (third offence within ten years). Young was remanded to the Anchorage Correctional Complex with bail set at $1,000.

Motor Vehicle Collision

GIRDWOOD—Jan. 12 at 10:30 p.m., a Trooper responded to a single vehicle collision at mi 87.8 Seward Highway. An investigation revealed Jenna Renee Bumgarner, age 19 of Kenai, was driving her 2005 Dodge Durango southbound, rounding a corner when she lost control on the ice and struck the guardrail multiple times with her vehicle. Bumgarner was wearing a seatbelt and received minor injuries that were treated by Girdwood EMS. The Durango was totaled. No citations were issued.

Driving While License Suspended

GIRDWOOD—Jan. 13 at 9:47 a.m., Troopers arrested Lane Kiehi Giesler, age 43 of Kenia, for driving while her license was suspended. Giesler was operating a late model pickup truck and contacted on a traffic stop near mile 63 of the Seward Highway for exceeding the posted speed limit. Giesler was issued traffic citations for speeding and possession of a suspended driver's license. A records check confirmed Giester's Alaska driver's license was suspended for Failure to Pay Child Support. Giesler was issued a misdemeanor mandatory court appearance citation for DWLS and released. Giesler's vehicle was later released to a licensed driver.

Motor Vehicle Collision

GIRDWOOD—Jan. 15 at about 8:15 p.m., the Troopers Bureau of Highway Patrol, Kenai Peninsula Team and Girdwood Troopers, responded to mile 101 of the Seward Highway for a report of a single vehicle collision. An investigation revealed that Jennifer A. Ross, age 28, of Anchorage, was traveling northbound on the Seward Highway when she lost control of her vehicle. The vehicle entered the ditch and rolled onto its side. The driver was uninjured in the collision. She reported wearing her safety belt. The damage to the vehicle was estimated at $5,000.

Motor Vehicle Collision

GIRDWOOD—Jan. 15 at around 8:30 p.m., a Trooper responded to a motor vehicle collision near Mile 75 of the Seward Highway. An investigation determined that a 2007 Chevrolet truck, driven by Kenneth C. Hayes, age 24, of Anchorage, was traveling southbound when he lost control on an icy corner and struck the guardrail. The driver and four passengers reported wearing their seatbelts and having no injuries.

Warrant Arrest

MOOSE PASS—Jan. 16 at approximately 7:30 p.m., Troopers stopped a black Jeep Cherokee for an equipment violation near mile 28 of the Seward Highway. A passenger in the vehicle was contacted and identified as Nicholas Maxie, age 21 of Bethel, by his AKID. A records check revealed Maxie had an outstanding warrant for his arrest for Failure to Appear for Arraignment on the original charge of Minor Consuming. Maxie was placed under arrest, transported to the Seward City Jail, and remanded. Bail was set at $100.
