Those of you with post office boxes in Girdwood and Bird/Indian will soon see the “purple program guide” in your boxes. This is the Four Valleys Community School (FVCS) description of the classes, events, and activities offered during the FVCS February-May session.
Infants to ninety year olds can find a class of interest—from a swim lesson to a slide show. The breadth of offerings is astounding, considering our size and locale. That factor is largely due to the many volunteers who step up to share their talents and enthusiasm. Check out what Lori is doing! Do you want to learn signed communication or how to knit? Lynne' will help you create a “heart cake” for a Valentine.
Is Rocket Science for you? Check out Dylan's and Lou's class. If you're a kid (or adult!) who likes sports, see Ross. Learn the history of Girdwood from Marianne at the Roundhouse.
Celebrate Dr. Seuss's birthday with Gabrielle. Tommy will share some stories about Malawi. These classes and many more bring us together in a way more profound than just getting a good workout or bringing home a holiday craft. Learning, playing, discussing, and creating with others fosters new connections and friendships, weaving together the fabric of our community just like the artistry in Denise's quilts.
So rather than throwing your “purple program guide” in the recycle bin, take it home and read it!
You may just be inspired to sign up for a class (Registration is Jan. 26 and 27 at the Girdwood School) or you may just find yourself simply smiling about the many things we have going for us in our relatively small community!
You can find our Community Survey in the Turnagain Times and complete and return it to all of us here at Four Valleys Community School!
