The Alaska State Troopers reported the following incidents. Any charges reported are merely accusations and the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
Burglary First Degree, Theft Third Degree
GIRDWOOD—Dec. 13, a Trooper investigated the report of a burglary at 586 Timberline Drive in Girdwood. It is believed that on Dec. 12 someone entered the residence and stole an undetermined amount of American currency, an IPOD, and two Hot Pocket microwaveable snacks. Previous to the Burglary there had been males in the area selling magazines. Those males are persons of interest in the Burglary and theft. Moose Collision
GIRDWOOD—Dec. 15 at approximately 6:17 p.m., a Trooper responded to mile 63 of the Seward Highway for a vehicle and moose collision. An investigation revealed Paul E. Stone, age 43 of Seward, was driving a 2007 Honda Odyssey van northbound when a moose entered the roadway and collided with the vehicle. The vehicle was totaled. All occupants reported no injuries and were wearing their seat belts. No citations were issued.
Driving While License Suspended
GIRDWOOD—Dec. 22 at 12:43 a.m., Troopers arrested Eric Lipps Moran, age 21 of Anchorage, for driving while his license was suspended. Moran was operating an early 2000s model passenger car near mile 93 of the Seward Highway. This section of the Seward Highway is within the Seward Highway Traffic Safety Corridor. Moran was contacted on a traffic stop for speeding. Moran was cited for speeding, no proof of insurance, and possession of a suspended driver's license. Moran was released at the scene with a misdemeanor mandatory court appearance citation for DWLS. Moran's vehicle was released to a licensed driver.
Motor Vehicle Crash
COOPER LANDING—Dec. 18 at approximately 4:17 p.m., the Troopers dispatch center was notified about a motor vehicle crash with injuries at mile 38 of the Sterling Highway. An investigation revealed that Vicky Tesar, 43 years old of Homer, was traveling northbound on the Sterling Highway when her vehicle spun out, crossed over into the southbound lane and struck a SUV. Tesar and her passenger and sustained minor injuries. The driver and passenger of the SUV did not sustain any visible injuries.
Motor Vehicle Collision, DUI
GIRDWOOD—Dec 18 at about 3:10 p.m., a Trooper responded to the report of a motor vehicle crash at mile 87 of the Seward Highway. This area is within the Seward Highway Safety Corridor. An investigation revealed the Matthew Flora, age 34 of Wasilla, had been driving south on the highway in his 2004 Ford Pickup when he lost control and struck the guard rail causing extensive damage to the both his vehicle and the guardrail. Flora then drove from the scene to a pull out approximately a half-mile away. It was determined that Flora had been driving under the influence of alcohol prior to and after the crash. He was arrested and eventually jailed in Anchorage.
Driving While License Revoked
GIRDWOOD—Dec. 28 at approximately 3:50 p.m., a Trooper stopped a 1998 Dodge Durango for failure to display license plates, near mile 102,5 Seward Highway. The driver, Robert D. Pierce, age 46 of Barrow was found to be driving on a revoked driver's license and was issued a citation for DWLR and released.
Driving While License Revoked, Allowing an Unlicensed Person to Drive, MICS 6th, Hindering Prosecution 2nd
GIRDWOOD—Dec. 30 at 2 p.m., Troopers stopped a vehicle near mile 111 of the Seward Highway after recognizing the driver and knowing that the driver had a revoked license. An investigation showed that Walter Toorak Jr., 34 of Anchorage, was driving the vehicle with a revoked license and in possession of marijuana. Lydia Omnik, 31 of Anchorage, found to have allowed Toorak to drive the vehicle knowing that he did not have a valid license. Omnik also switched seats with Toorak while stopping the vehicle in an attempt to keep him from getting in trouble. Toorak and Omnik were arrested without incident and remanded into the Anchorage Jail with bail set at $1,000 and $500 respectively.
Motor vehicle crash with injuries, DUI-drugs, Driving While License Revoked
COOPER LANDING—Dec. 31 at approximately 6:27 p.m., Troopers dispatch was notified of a motor vehicle crash with injuries at mile 59 Sterling Highway. An investigation revealed that Amanda Lambert, 28 years old of Kenai, was traveling northbound on the Sterling Highway at mile 59 when her vehicle crossed into the southbound lane and struck a Mini Van. Lambert and her passenger sustained non-life threatening injuries. The driver and passenger of the other vehicle did not report any injuries. Lambert was arrested for DUI-Drugs and Driving while her license was revoked. The investigation is on going and further charges are possible.
Motor Vehicle Collision
COOPER LANDING—Dec. 31 at approximately 11 p.m., a Trooper came upon a motor vehicle crash involving injuries near mile 38 of the Seward Highway. An investigation revealed that Marie Schonsheck, age 27 of Anchorage, had been driving south on the highway in her Toyota 4 Runner when she lost control on the icy roadway and impacted a snow berm multiple times. Schonscheck's infant son received minor cuts to his face as a result of the crash. Schonsheck and her son were transported to Soldotna by Central Emergency Services vehicle, which happen to be driving by just after the crash. The vehicle is a total loss.
Warrant Arrest
GIRDWOOD—Jan. 1 at approximately 4:00 a.m., a Trooper from Girdwood contacted Jillian Brown, age 30 of Anchorage, as a passenger in a vehicle, which had been stopped for a moving violation near mile 99 of the Seward Highway. An investigation revealed that Brown had three outstanding warrants for her arrest with a total bail of $ 8,500. Brown was transported to and lodged at the Anchorage Jail.
DUI, Resisting Arrest
GIRDWOOD—Jan. 1 at approximately 1:30 a.m., a Trooper from Girdwood stopped an Oldsmobile SUV near Holmgren Avenue and the Alyeska Highway for a moving violation. An investigation revealed the driver of the Oldsmobile Troy Murdough, age 23 of Girdwood, was operating it under the influence of alcohol. When Murdough was told he was under arrest he physically resisted the Troopers effort to place him handcuffs. Murdough was eventually transported to and lodged at the Anchorage Jail with a $500 cash only bail. His vehicle was towed from the scene by an Anchorage area tow company.
Burglary Second Degree, Theft Second Degree, Theft Third Degree
GIRDWOOD—Jan. 1 at approximately 10:00 a.m., a Trooper from Girdwood contacted Therese Foley, age 49 of Girdwood, after she reported a burglary and theft from a common area garage within a condominium complex located at 340 Hightower Rd in Girdwood. An investigation revealed that at some point after 2:00 a.m. on Jan. 1 an unknown person(s) entered the garage and stole approximately $20,000 in property from various vehicles and storage areas. The items stolen included four Signal brand Park series snow boards, two Magellan GPS's, four Nokia brand Teva model tires (size 285 60 R17), a set of McGregor/Nicholas golf clubs, a set of four 20” aluminum truck wheels with tires, and a set of four 22 inch aluminum truck wheels with tires. Anyone with information regarding these crimes is urged to contact the Alaska State Troopers in Girdwood at 907-783-0972. An investigation is ongoing.
DUI
GIRDWOOD—Jan. 1 at around midnight The Troopers Bureau of Highway Patrol, Kenai Peninsula Team stopped a vehicle near Timberline Drive and the Alyeska Highway for a moving violation. The driver of the vehicle was identified as John E. Minnery, age 21, of Anchorage. An investigation revealed that Minnery had operated the vehicle under the influence of alcohol. Minnery was arrested for DUI. Minnery was remanded at the Anchorage Jail on a $250 bail.
Driving While License Revoked, Warrant Arrest
GIRDWOOD—Jan. 4 at 6:49 p.m., Troopers arrested Edward Antone Endresen age 52 of Seward, for driving while his license was revoked, his second offence. Endresen was also arrested on a $10,000 Anchorage Police Department warrant for Contempt of Court and a No Bail warrant for Failure to Appear for a remand hearing for DWLR. Endresen was operating an early 90s model pickup truck traveling northbound near mile 62 of the Seward Highway. Endresen was contacted on a traffic stop for an equipment violation. Endresen was issued a traffic citation for window tint, his vehicle was impounded, and Endresen was remanded to the Anchorage Correctional Complex. Bail for the DWLR was set at $500.
