Garaj Mahal

Garaj Mahal will perform live at the Sitzmark Bar & Grill on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 8 and 9 at 10 p.m. Their sound is a convergence of jazz-style improves, mystical Middle-Eastern atmospheres and danceable American funk, and they've been known to deliver serious grooves that bring the dance floor alive. If you've never seen this band live, don't miss this unforgettable experience. Tickets $12/advance and $15/day of show and can be purchased at the Sitzmark, Ticket Office or by calling 754-2275.

Town & Shred Leagues

Registration is now open for Coors Light Town League Race Series and the new Shred League Freestyle Competition League. Town League Registration Rally is Thursday, Jan. 7 at the Sitzmark from 6 to 8 p.m. and the first race is scheduled for Jan. 14. Shred League Registration Rally will be Friday, Feb. 12 at the Tramway Café from 6 to 8 p.m. Registration forms and more details are available for both leagues online.

Alyeska Pipeline Masters

Drop into the new 300-foot Alyeska Pipeline Super Pipe during its inaugural event scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 16. The Alyeska Pipeline Masters Competition will take place from 4 – 7 p.m. Registration forms and more details are available online. Bring a completed form (parental signature required for under 18) to either Ticket Office from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on the day of the event to sign up. If you're not up for competing, watch the action from the Spectator Event Tent with a DJ, bonfire and beer and wine for 21 & over. Big Alaska Snowboard Club and Alyeska Ski Club Freeride Program both have competitions scheduled in the park and pipe during January. Check our website for more info on participating in either program.

There will be an additional night of skiing on Sunday, Jan. 17 for Martin Luther King Day on Monday. The mountain will remain open until 9 p.m. The Sitzmark will have an additional night of live music on Sunday featuring Bare Roots Reggae. Show starts at 10 p.m. and tickets are $5.

Snow Film Series

Wednesdays are movie night at the Sitzmark this January. Telluride Mountainfilm on Tour is back again this year to showcase vivid short films that celebrate the indomitable spirit and the great outdoors. Showtime is at 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 13 and tickets are $5. Call 754-2275 for advance tickets. Think Thank and Absinthe Films produce some of the best snowboard films in the industry and the Sitzmark is showing their latest movies on Jan. 20 and 27. Showtime is 7:30 and admission is free.

Winter Trails Day

Winter Trails Day, now in its 14th year, is a national program meant to offer adults and children the opportunity to get outside and enjoy a day in the snow. Alaska Backcountry Access is hosting free snowshoe tours of nearby trails and meadows on Saturday, Jan. 9 and Alyeska Resort is providing free snowshoe rentals. Snowshoes, maps, and registration forms can be picked up from noon to 1 p.m. at the Alyeska Mountain Shop. Tours begin at 1 p.m. Bring a camera and warm layers for this active adventure. Mountain Learning Center

Learn a snow sport or fine tune your skills with a MLC lesson this winter. Freestyle Fridays is an introduction to freestyle skiing and riding for intermediate to advanced levels in and out of the terrain park for ages 5 – 13 from 6 – 8 p.m. on Friday nights through March 26. Powder Blasters Program offers all day lessons for ages 5 - 13 on Saturdays and Sundays though April 25. Women’s Midweek Ski & Snowboard Clinics are three-week Wednesday programs where participants can enjoy time on the slopes with friends while perfecting skills.
