Alex Schell, 5, proves that you can read a good book anywhere!

In just a few short days solstice will be upon us and Hope Happenings would like to extend a “good on ya” to everyone for keeping it together and generously applying the smiles over the last few months. Nice work Hope.

Grateful for Fayrene Sherritt, long-time Hope Correspondent

As many of you may have noticed, Fayrene Sherritt, longtime Hope Happenings author-in-chief, has retired her position. She made a graceful exit in October after over 10 years on the job. Locals will remember her tireless efforts to be inclusive of everyone's news and to be fair in her reporting. Hope Happenings will strive to maintain Fayrene's standards.

Here Comes the Bride

Everyone at the school Christmas Bazaar was pleasantly surprised to see newlyweds Lee and Jamie Hall (nee Biggers) make their first entrance as a married couple. The two quietly tied the knot in Seward over the Thanksgiving holiday. Hope Happenings congratulates them and wishes them happiness and patience in the years to come.

School Break

Hope School will be closed from Dec. 21-Jan.3 for their holiday break. The Pampered Chef and Enchilada Take-Out fundraisers were a huge success with fundraising amounts of over $1,000! That is proof that volunteering does indeed make a difference.

Citations Issued on Hope Road

Hope Happenings has received reports of state troopers issuing speeding tickets on Hope Road. This, despite the fact that there are plenty of speeding vehicles on the Seward Highway, reminds us that we have rather picturesque pullouts here in Hope and even officers of the law just want a good view. Consider yourself warned.

Hope Inc.

Hope Inc. submitted an application for a state funded Community Revenue Sharing Program grant of almost $20,000 for each of the next two years. There has been no official notification of being rewarded the money yet, but Hope Happenings does believe in the power of group projection.

Signatures are still being collected for those of you who may have junk vehicles clogging up your property. With enough vehicles to make the scrap metal worth hauling away, we may actually see the grass again! Sign up at the Discovery Café board.

Alas, no one has volunteered to be the official Hope, Inc. treasurer yet. Anyone…anyone? The glamour, the prestige, the checks you will get to write! Think about it.

Christmas Potluck

The community Christmas celebration and potluck will be held at the Social Hall on Dec. 19. Bring a dish and your good holiday cheer. The potluck begins at 6 p.m. and our sources have informed us that St. Nick himself will be there.

Community Breakfast

Don't forget that Wednesday mornings is Community Breakfast day at the church. Head on down for the best pancakes and eggs around, and to see Tom Burgin in an apron. Coffee is served at 7:30 a.m. and breakfast begins at 8:00 a.m.

E-mail us your Hope Happenings
