Girdwood Chapel and Fire Department to host Thanksgiving dinner

Chapel also holds blessing of the skis and snowboards

Girdwood Fire Department and Girdwood Chapel will again be hosting a Community Thanksgiving Dinner this year. The dinner will take place at the Girdwood Fire Station on Wednesday, Nov. 25 from 5-7 p.m. Turkeys, paper goods, plastic ware, and drinks will be provided by Girdwood Chapel.

“This is a wonderful way to gather together as a community and provides a traditional meal for persons who may not have any family in the area,” said Girdwood Chapel Pastor Jim Doepken. He asks that attendees please bring a dish to share.

The Girdwood Chapel also invites you to bring your skis and snowboards as we seek a blessing of safety upon all who come to the mountain this winter season.

“We'll have some skier-related prayers and will pray for the ski patrol and other Alyeska employees,” said Doepken.

There will be special recognition of the following: oldest pair of skis, oldest and youngest rider/skier, most decked out snowboard. Meet at the parking lot of Girdwood Chapel on Timberline Drive at 11:30 a.m. Coffee and Hot Chocolate will be provided.
