Thanks to volunteers for work at Sports Swap
To the Editor
The Four Valleys Community School Board would like to thank all those wonderful people who volunteered their time and talents to our annual fundraiser the “Sports Swap” We wouldn't swap any of you for the world! Because of your support FVCS had a record breaking Swap. Funds from the event will help sustain the Community School program in the coming year. A portion of the money will go to support the Girdwood School PE Ski Program.
Thank you!

Be aware of safety and mountain hazards on Mt. Alyeska
To the Editor:
Alyeska Resort is busy getting ready for the upcoming winter season. Once the temperature drops, snowmaking crews will begin deploying snow guns. This means there will be hazards associated with pressurized hoses, charged power lines and machinery operating. Once snow making operations begin, the mountain will no longer be open to up hill traffic.
The Snow Safety Department would like to remind all backcountry riders, especially those who use the southwest face of Max's Mountain that Alyeska Resort operates under a lease agreement with the Department of Natural Resources State of Alaska. It is prohibited to access any part of the Ski Area other than by the Alyeska Resort lift system from November 1 to the end of summer race camps around June 20 of each season. The southwest face of Max's Mountain is not closed to riding, but you cannot cross the threshold of the Ski Area or affect in any way the safety of those people below in the Ski Area. If you can see the base area from the up track, you are likely over the threshold.
Alyeska Resort has a very aggressive Avalanche Mitigation Program due to the distances and lack of access during high to moderate avalanche danger periods. Military artillery is the main tool we use to reduce the avalanche hazard to an acceptable level. This work can and does happen at anytime, day or night.
The safety of our guests and employees is our top priority. Please obey all closures.
As the snow starts building up at the higher elevations, remember small early season avalanches are just as deadly as any other. Use caution as you venture out in the backcountry. Educate yourself, be prepared and check your beacon batteries. The Easy Searcher Beacon Park will be operational once there is sufficient snow in the Tram base area. Have a safe winter.
