Dave's Creek Restoration project removes obstacles for fish passage
The Dave's Creek restoration project set goals to remove obstacles that inhibit fish passage and help re-create the original meandering stream channel. The restoration work at Dave's Creek was confined to May 15 through July 15, as to not disrupt juvenile salmon and returning adult salmon. Now that the project is complete, the Kenai Watershed Forum will monitor the creek to determine if the salmon are indeed thriving in the stream better than before.

Kenai Crewsers Rowing Club still going after all these years
KCRC began as a single ad posted on the Moose Pass Post Office community board in December of 1996. The first meeting consisted of four interested women, and, although none had rowing experience, they decided to give it a try and the club was born. Gonzaga University shipped some boats (skulls) to Seattle, a Kenai Fjords Tour Boat sailed them to Seward, and a Carlile flatbed truck hauled them to the Trail Lakes Hatchery. Thirteen years later, the club now has multiple boats at both Bear Lake in Seward and Kenai Lake in Cooper Landing. The KCRC placed second overall in the annual Moose Nugget Regatta, which took place on Wasilla Lake on September 12. Congratulations Crewsers!
The KCRC will be racing in the 2009 World Master Games in Sydney Australia. Eleven rowers and their coach, Scott Allison, will be racing between Oct. 10 and the 14. Between the eleven rowers, they are expecting to participate in anywhere between 15 and 20 races, including a women's eight-person skull race.
