Chugach plans two short outages for Girdwood
Chugach Electric Association has scheduled a pair of outages for customers in Girdwood. Each outage is expected to be approximately two hours long. The outages are necessary to repair a failed circuit switcher about a mile north of the Girdwood Substation prior to the onset of winter. A circuit switcher allows Chugach to remotely switch the power feeding Girdwood from one source to another in the event of an interruption.
The first outage is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m., on Thursday, Sept. 24, to take the equipment out of service so it can be worked on safely. The second outage at 9 a.m., Friday, Sept. 25, is necessary to return the circuit switcher to service.
The outages will affect about 1,600 metered-locations in Girdwood.
Chugach is the largest electric utility in Alaska, providing power for Alaskans throughout the Railbelt through retail, wholesale and economy energy sales.
