
The Alaska State Troopers reported the following incidents. Any charges reported are merely accusations and the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
Warrant Arrest
GIRDWOOD—Aug. 17 at approximately 8 p.m., a Trooper stopped a 1996 Chevy Tahoe near mile 96 Seward Highway for speeding. An investigation revealed a passenger in the vehicle, Andrew G. Tom, age 27 of Anchorage, had an outstanding arrest warrant for $1,000 for Failure to Attend a DUI hearing. Tom was taken into custody and later remanded to the Anchorage Jail.
Marijuana Possession, Furnishing Alcohol to Minor, Theft III, MCA
GIRDWOOD—On Aug. 19 at 9:40 p.m., the Alaska State Troopers Bureau of Highway Patrol South Central Team stopped a 1992 Honda Accord at mile 99 of the Seward Highway near Girdwood for an equipment violation. The driver was identified as Baltazar Ontiveros, 22, of Anchorage. An investigation revealed that Ontiveros was in possession of marijuana. Ontiveros had also provided alcohol for his minor passenger indentified as Javier Olivos-Palomares, 18, of Anchorage. During the investigation Ontiveros took one of the investigating Troopers PBT (Portable Breath Test instrument) and threw it into the wood line after first trying to conceal the item in his clothing. His actions were caught on the Troopers in-car video system as Ontiveros was standing in front of the patrol vehicle at the time. Ontiveros was subsequently arrested for MICS VI, Furnishing Alcohol to a Minor and Theft III. Ontiveros was booked into the Anchorage Jail where his bail was set at $1,500. Olivos-Palomeras was issued a misdemeanor citation for minor consuming alcohol.
Minor Consuming Alcohol/Furnishing Alcohol to a Minor
GIRDWOOD—Aug. 21 at 8:10 p.m., the Alaska State Troopers Bureau of Highway Patrol South Central Team stopped a 1994 Ford Thunderbird at mile 95 Seward Highway for an equipment violation. An investigation revealed that the driver identified as Miguel Degracia, 22, of Santa Ana, Cal., had provided his passenger who was under the age of 21 with alcohol. The passenger was identified as Joseph Mesa, 18, of Kenai. Degracia was issued a misdemeanor citation for furnishing alcohol to a minor. Mesa was issued a misdemeanor citation for minor consuming alcohol. Degracia was also issued a citation for open container.
Driving While License Suspended
GIRDWOOD—Aug. 21 at approximately 11 p.m., the Troopers Bureau of Highway Patrol South Central Team stopped a vehicle at Mile 99 of Seward Highway for a moving violation (Safety Corridor). The operator was identified as Laverna K. Simeonoff, age 51 of Anchorage. Simeonoff was found to be operating a motor vehicle when her operator’s license was suspended. Simeonoff was given a misdemeanor citation for driving while license suspended and released to a valid driver.
Motor Vehicle Collision
GIRDWOOD—Aug. 22 at around 10:42 p.m., the Troopers Bureau of Highway Patrol, South Central Team responded to a two-vehicle collision on the Seward Highway near the intersection of Alyeska Highway. An investigation determined a 1993 Ford Ranger pickup driven by Stefany ZM Brummer, age 19 of Anchorage, was traveling northbound on the Seward Highway when a 2001 Saturn sedan driven by Sheena Mae Mills, age 22 of Kenai, turned southbound onto the Seward Highway from the Girdwood Tesoro Mall in front of the Ranger. The Ranger collided with the Saturn. All occupants reported wearing their seatbelts and there were no injuries. Alcohol was not a factor in this collision.
DUI/Refusal
GIRDWOOD—Aug. 22 at 7:11 p.m., the Alaska State Troopers Bureau of Highway Patrol South Central team along with Girdwood based State Troopers responded to a report of a REDDI vehicle near mile 87 Seward Highway. The vehicle was reported to have crossed the centerline multiple times almost causing a head on collision. An investigation revealed that Coleen Harrier, age 38 of Girdwood, was driving her 1986 Subaru station wagon while under the influence of alcohol. Harrier was arrested and later refused to provide a breath sample. Harrier was booked into the Anchorage Jail on the charges of DUI and Refusal, her bail was set at $5,000 plus a court approved third party custodian. The vehicle was impounded on scene. Harrier was also issued citations for no proof of insurance and open container.
Marijuana Possession
GIRDWOOD—Aug. 22, members of the Troopers Bureau of Highway Patrol South Central Team, stopped a 2005 Toyota Tundra Pickup truck for speeding at mile 94 of the Seward Highway. The driver was identified as James Hetrick, age 21 of Moose Pass. Hetrick was found to be in possession of marijuana and was issued a misdemeanor citation to appear in court for Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance 6th degree as well as a citation for speeding.
Marijuana Possession
GIRDWOOD—Aug. 22 at around 8:48 p.m., the Troopers Bureau of Highway Patrol South Central Team stopped a vehicle near Mile 97 of the Seward Highway for a moving violation. The operator was identified as Fred T. Angasan, age 65 of South Naknek. Angasan and his passenger Elena C. Blunka, age 56 of South Naknek, were found to be in possession of Marijuana. Angasan and Blunka were issued misdemeanor citations to appear in court at a later date. They were released on scene.
Driving With a Suspended License/Marijuana Possession/Warrant Arrest
GIRDWOOD—Aug. 29 at 2:15 p.m., a Trooper stopped a 1999 Lincoln Continental near mi 98.5 Seward Highway for a moving violation. An investigation revealed the driver, Jonathan Warren Kelsey, age 22 of Wasilla, was driving on a suspended driver’s license (Suspended for point system) and possessed marijuana. He was issued a summons for MICS VI and DWLS. Kelsey was also issued a citation for Driving without Headlights in a safety Zone. A passenger in the front seat, Andrew R. Adams, age 21 of Wasilla, was also found to possess marijuana and was issued a summons for MICS VI. A third passenger, Brent Owen Ladd, age 19 of Wasilla, was found to have an outstanding $500 APD Arrest Warrant for failure to appear for DWLR. Ladd was arrested for the warrant and was also issued a summons for MICS VI after he was found in possession of marijuana.
