Photonz benefit concert
Alyeska Resort is hosting a benefit concert and silent auction for the families of the July 11 Girdwood house fire. The benefit will take place in the Daylodge on Aug. 15. The Photonz are headlining with opening acts Stray Dogma and Melissa Mitchell Band. The $20 cover charge and silent auction proceeds will all go directly to the two families that lost their belongings in the fire. Tickets are available in advance at the Tram Ticket Office, 754-2275. Alyeska Mountain Run
The classic Alyeska Mountain Run will take place on Saturday, Aug. 15. This year’s race will be an uphill course only, no round trip. Test your legs on this 2.5 km course with an elevation gain of 2000-ft. Race time is at noon. $25 entry fee with online pre-registration or $35 on race day. Race is hosted by Alaska Mountain Runners.
Sushi in Girdwood

Blueberry Festival
There’s still time to sign up for a booth at this year’s Blueberry Festival. Registration deadline is Aug. 10. Call 754-2545 for vendor info. Start planning your culinary masterpiece now for the Blueberry Creations and Drunken Blueberry contests. Submit your blueberry-themed baked goods, jams, jellies or blueberry beer, wine, liqueurs and mixed drinks by 4:30 p.m., Aug. 22 for the 5 p.m. judging. Get creative and win lift tickets!
Mountain Biking at Alyeska
Congratulations to the winners of the Mountain Bike Criterium Race on Saturday, July 18. Darren Mattingly of Girdwood and Sheryl Loan of Anchorage were the victors in this inaugural event. Complete results are on our website. Next up is the Blueberry Pancake Open Mountain Bike Race on Aug. 22, right before the Blueberry Festival. Registration and practice runs from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., race start at 10:30 a.m. $20 entry fee, helmets required. |
